Well, I beg to differ. Until we have better options Classic Shell is the way to go. The current ms one simply won't cut it, for me.

So yes, the proper word is, in fact, need.

    Rickkins...

Just installed the 4.20 beta of Shell and it works smoothly. Installed without MS block this time (prob cause beta). Added benny... "hover" now works correctly over start button.

Not wishing to decry your efforts but you don't really need an EXTRA program to customize your start menu --in any case the whole kybosh is likely to change in the next release of W10 (Ms has hinted that there WILL be some substantial changes) so there's a good chance of this not working properly again. You can pretty well customize the standard menu already. Don't forget also now that you can also use for commands the POWER SHELL instead of the standard CMD prompt -- W10 is much more customiseable than W8.

Now getting some of the gadgets to work ALONE (I.e without relying on a 3rd party menu) like live tiles would actually be a GOOD idea - those would be popular IMO).

I know there was excellent work done for W8 but it's probably time to put this particular program to bed for W10.

    Cheers

I think they need to leave every thing Win 8 had and refine it with the menu. What is it you believe needs to be put to rest?

Win 8 did have great things so why throw those away? I believe they need to build on every thing they already have done.

Thanks for the update Ivo. I use Classic Shell on my 8.1.1 install. I haven't tried it in 10 yet. Because of the bugs in the last 2 builds I mostly use 8.1.1. BunnyJ, Thanks for the link to the 8GadgetPack. How did you get the weather widget to display the info that is in the center? I can only get it to display on the right hand side.

    Windows 8.1.1 64-bit

Same Gadget Pack - different gadgets. Running in 8.1.1 Pro w/Media Center 64-bit.

Just about everything I need to know, at a glance.

As for the 'security risk', my bet is that they were removed to encourage the use of live tiles, and for no other reason. I've never had the slightest issue with either the original MS ones or these 8gadgetpack ones.

There are options with each widget that lets you move it around. Check out the options and you can do a lot with it as well.

Thanks! I got it by right clicking and playing around with the move selection.
