If you plan on keeping your DDR3 motherboards for a while I suggest buying memory while it's cheap. As soon as DDR4 starts shipping in quantity, DDR3 prices will likely start going up as production shifts to DDR4 and DDR3 becomes less common.
I strongly disagree. Where did you get information about DDR price doubling compared to last year? I work in IT shop and haven't noticed major difference.
DDR4 will take a while to hit the market properly, I'd say about 2,5 -3 years. It's simply not worth to spend so much more money on motherboard compatible with new RAM as well as more expensive RAM, compared to what it gives. You're better off with 32GB DDR3 high frequency RAM than 8GB or 16GB DDR4 for example.
Didn't need any information, I bought 1 stick of HyperX 4GB, 1600 MHz last year when I switched to DDR3 MB and another 4 GB this summer and the price was darn near double.
