Yes, that was posted way later after all the comments were posted on the forums. Seems like in-place upgrade install on 10586 is not possible unless you had the 10586 ISO. 10240 iso with updates is going to take way too long depending on how fast the internet connection is.

    W10 Pro x64/W7 Ultimate x64 dual boot main - W10 Pro Insider Preview/W7 Pro x64 - remote pc

You called that one correctly! Cliff S Out of the first few comments one comment stated what I saw here having 0% problems while everyone else running into Intel driver issues and other complaints. But Intel alone as far as driver issues only effects a small portion of things namely Surface, Suface Pro type tablets while not even be noticed on other portables and hand helds.

One report seen last week points to an upgrade bug being reported on. A followup report by Softpedia then provided a step by step solution to get past the freeze during upgrade install problem being reported. How to Fix Windows 10 Threshold 2 Freezing During Install

Now as far as MS making their own drivers how is that going to happen when they don't even manufacture the hardwares with the Microsoft brand name on them? You think they manufacture things domestically? Haaa....! Try China, Malaysia, Thailand, Phillipines, etc. They have 3rd party sources for their hardware division since they are specifically a software company.

I know of one local brand now suffering from what happens when outsourcing things as well. Once the local business was bought out the new larger company decided to cheapen thing down by "cutting corners" or their excuse as cutting expenses and outsourcing one area of the product line to India! Due to how the product with high standing slumped into obscurity customers starting returning orders fast! Those would be wholesale suppliers when the product sales as a result of cheapieness saw people switching fast to other brands!

MS is concerned that 10 won't simply turn out to be another 8 in disguise due to the GUI change make over and flop which would explain why something would be pulled this fast. From getting 10 on I realized it was more like the RC and Customer Preview as well as reaching the Insider Preview stages but not quite the final flavor you would normally have seen with a past RTM release or seeing the first SP come out following a long list of updates. 10 still needs to see some work done regardless.

I should add further, Almighty1 having missed your reply, that I did save the download to disk first and had planned to replace the 4 in 1 media previously made up with the Tech Bench downloads for the 10240 build with this newer combination iso that came in weighing 5.48gb compared to the previously seen dual iso at 5.56gb. for just the two flavors of one edition or the other while this one wrapped everything except the N and Single language 32bit Home only options. When going to upgrade over a 10586 Insider Preview VM which went well the 10 installer automatically knew which edition and which flavor was already on despite being a combo. For a clean install you would then see the options for 32bit/64bit and Home/Pro.

I have just "inherited" four more Fujitsu laptops for use in the community - all on Windows 7.

I upgraded one yesterday using a memory stick with 10586, built by the Create Media method.

Can I still use this as the upgrade path?

    I would appreciate some guidance.

Like I just told someone else on another thread: Go ahead, "the only change that has been, is that Microsoft now prefers to issue the upgrade/update via Windows Update(as the new update system was designed for from the get go) instead of an ISO. The content is the same."

It seems with the MCT ISO too many people at once download and use it, then when so many use it and a high percent have problems, it's harder to control. But with Windows Update, the update issuing on the server can be easily controlled pulled without anyone noticing, the problem code fixed, and then reissued. Remember it's not only versions(Home Pro enterprise...etc. but many different languages and language packs too, problems are bound to happen....

Many thanks for the quick reply - much appreciated.

My main concern was the convoluted process I have to go through for both the initial install and then TH2.

    Phew!

It will be too late now to recommend the updated Media Creation tool for download of the latest Threshold 2 10586 build since MS pulled it out of the blue! That had both Home and Pro editions as well as both 32bit and 64bit flavors wrapped up in a single download rather then picking and choosing. The 10 installer would automatically choose the correct edition and kernal likely 32bit to see 10 32bit go on.

The Custom clean install option however would be the preferred option if you follow the method outlined in the guide for this where you can completely bypass the need to upgrade install anything! Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First - Windows 10 Forums

A nice fresh clean install activated on the spot without the hassles and bugs that come with upgrades? Wouldn't that be the best option? When dealing with a large number of units to see upgraded to 10 you would want to see the most reliable end result or see people tossing back in your face when the upgrades turn out "BUGGY AS ALL H___ !". "Hey why don't this work?!"

Many thanks for that - I have downloaded Shawn's article (got lots of tips from him on Sevenforums), and I will make a decision later about what to do.

The really good news is that I now have choices!

    Thanks again.
