First Major Update for Windows 10 Available
-
I've been wondering why I didn't get any problem ugrading to Threshold 2, but I always had problems upgrading in other versions from Windows Update. And now I have my conclusions:
- First attempt, time ago, was under a non legal copy. So the fault goes to that.
- Second attemptS (yep, several), I had cleaning tools installed on Windows 8 before running the upgrade to 8.1.
Right now, my upgrades to this new build in both computers (the same I had when 8 to 8.1) were legal and without cleaning software installed on Windows since I installed 10. So... well. That's my only point. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it has something to do.
So from now, and just to have caution, I'm only running the tools that Windows provide in order to defrag, clean and check hard drives and system. Also, thinking about get definitive rid of any third party anti virus as I'm testing Windows' Defender and Firewall on my laptop.
I've been saying that all along, well since W7 actually that windows have enough tools for everyday maintenance. Nobody knows OS like it's maker and most of it is kept secret. Only other stuff I use Revo for clean uninstall of programs and programs to find doubles. That coupled with Malwarebytes and few other antimalware programs kept my system clean despite it been upgraded from W7 to 8 to 8.1 and now to 10 since 10240, never a clean install. Any problems were dealt with pronto. Never cleaned registry or defraged disks.

MCT = Media Creator Tool
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/software-download/windows10indows 10
Get it here ...
Make a DVD from it 4.7gb is fine.
Also How do you check the version i open command prompt & type ver but not say the 11 I click about windows I see my PC name & etc no version number.
I was asking for DrSysop, not for myself, Dick. :) I didn't have the links handy and since they're posted throughout this thread . . .
When I'm upgraded, I grab the install.esd, convert it to ISO and then create a bootable Flash Drive. Sounds complicated, but it's so easy to do that even if I don't plan on a clean install, I'll do it anyway.

Ok all for those who had this issue as I had I have a fix & works on my HP & Dell machines.
Ok download the MCT I made a DVD from it .
Go into device manager uninstall all your network cards wireless & wired
shut pc down open pc up & remove your wireless card & Ethernet card if you can as some are built in. I had to use my old ram which i had changed & then boot into your bios
now disable lan & wireless + i also disabled my sound & my PATA device.
boot pc back up insert the dvd u made let it install then you see these screen shots & all went through fine.
after it finished shut pc down install ram back & network cards that you removed & go back to bios & enable what u had disabled before
boot back up let the drivers install & may ask you to reboot again & pronto it all works.
I don't see any real difference on this new 10586 they say the log on screen changed with more icons on it but looks same as before. These pictures I never seen before cause of the blue screen & safe_boot errors. Thanks all for your suggestions God Bless!
Well I'm glad you figured it out, but no one should have to go to that length to accomplish this! Geesh!
I think you can just type winver in the search box.

Yes was a real pain but MIcrosoft needs to check before it releases.

Halp!!
Slight problem..
Attachment 48169
the Documents folder is currently defaulting to OneDrive via Quick Access
can I stop this from happening, as the Documents file is likely to grow very large, very quickly??
- I want the Documents folder to remain on my PC and
NOT to be shared on the cloud..
- the short-cut links in the start screen are also defaulting to the OneDrive
- it appears that Pictures are also being auto-saved to the cloud..
- is this correct, or can I change this so that the Pictures apply solely to This PC
- and are not auto-shared..???

Right click on the cloud icon in the notification area for OneDrive. Click Settings. Select the AutoSave tab:

Ummm, they did . . . when we Insiders got Build 10586. Everything was a go, so Microsoft released it to the world and things somehow went haywire.
FYI, this is the second time something like this has happened; however, the first time it only happened with Insiders.

OK back up an running.
This system would not do and upgrade so I used MCT and put the ISO on a USB stick then did a clean install on my Desktop.
Only took about 20 min to install and boot to W10.
I used Mini Tool Partition Wizard to wipe my SSD and left it unallocated and let W10 install in GPT/UFEI mode.
Go a couple updates and now on 10586.11 and running very well.
Have a few more programs to install but that's for tomorrow.
Looking in Device Manager everything has MS drivers ver 10.0.10586.0 except my AMD Video Card and my Realtek Lan and I will leave it like that for a while.
