Same thing happened to me, Alpha. I now have Home instead of Pro like I should have! To say I was surprised is an understatement!

I have a Windows 8.1 Pro key, so if I change my key, will that update me to where I belong?
If you had Windows 10 Pro activated on that computer before, then you would enter the Windows 10 Pro generic key to upgrade.

Well, phooey! I've never had to do this, so I don't know where to get the generic key for 10 Pro.

Could you tell me where to find it, please?

If you already have a digital entitlement for Pro just enter the generic Pro key. That's what I did and it upgraded to Pro and activated fine. VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

    And that was painless.

I do think we should all give feedback on this issue, since not everyone is knowledgeable enough to fix the issue. I surely wasn't!
