First Major Update for Windows 10 Available
-
Interesting. So far the update to 1511 appeared by itself on only one of my four Windows 10 Pro machines. And that one has the most recent Windows 10 install of them all - only about a week old. This seems to contradict what is stated in the article.
(However, my attempts to install that update ended with an error so far. Maybe that "31 days downgrade rule" is indeed the reason.)
My other machines have much older Windows installs and they don't show this update yet.

So the old rule has been reconfirmed, Windows becomes usable after the first service pack.
When I installed SP1, everything is working, including GPU driver, I had to use 8.1 before.
I only had to delete Cortana and Powershell, other then that it kept most of the settings.
I am only stunned by MS' idiocy, white text on a black background? Well, whatever.

I used the Media Creation Tool to update my Window 10 Pro 10240 --> 10586.3. It did the job and beats constantly asking MS Update if it is there yet. It did leave an ESD folder on my drive C and now I am wondering if I can copy that folder to a flash drive and use that to update other Window 10 computers?

It must be something in your settings, because I have light gray (very hard on eyes) on white background.

I'm in process of upgrading Windows 10 64-bit build 240 to the latest using Media Creation Tool. Is "Getting Updates" normal?

Sure you can, but the MCT will do the same if you downloaded the whole thing.

It'll do all sorts of strange things. :)

Good question!

Good to know. I have a laptop, too!
