    Thank you for your response.

To clarify, I have been running Windows 10 Pro since August and have successfully received numerous UPDATES.

Today, I received notification of the first UPGRADE to the August issuance of Windows 10.

Upgrading the Lenovo, I received the failed message for the UPGRADE.

I thought the Media Creation tool was specific to only upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7, 8, etc.

Since I already have Windows 10 installed and running, I only want the UPGRADE to the new higher level of OS.

This is why I question whether to use the Media Creation Tool.
One purpose of the Media Creation Tool is to create install media. For use after you have done the upgrade. For doing a clean install after that for instance. Once you do the upgrade and activate, you get a digital entitlement for Windows 10 for that PC. Clean installs are then possible without having to install the original qualifying OS and doing an upgrade the second or third time around on that same PC. If you already have a digital entitlement you can if you want clean install build 10586. Or if you want upgrade from 10240 to 10586. The MCT will allow you to do any one of those depending on what options you chose. You can upgrade with or without install media. To clean install you need the install media. It all depends on what you want to do. Windows 8.1 also has its own Media Creation Tool with very similar options. If you have an OEM PC with no install media these are the places to go to get official Microsoft Install media.

Yes, because Microsoft wants to give everyone that 30 day to revert to the previous OS except in your case, you don't have one but maybe they forgot all about the clean installers and basically only check for days since installation.
I think what you said sounds logical. I guess I'll do occasional checks but diarise for 31 days since 29th Oct which I think is when my machine got it's delivery/first boot!

    Cheers

Doesn't matter that your already on win 10, it will just upgrade you to the latest version

I'd prefer to do an update. So, you're running Win 10 Insider Preview TH2 version 1511 build 10586 now? I'm on Win 10 Home 64-bit. Is this update for my system or just Insiders?
This is for those who are currently running Windows 10 Build 10240 RTM.

Insiders got this a couple of weeks ago, but only got the final bits day before yesterday or so.

    Hi,

    I've a Toshiba KIRA laptop running w10 from august|
Yesterday I had the update for the new build!
I installed it but a message appeared saying that some updates were not installed!
Now: if I go to my update history I have this "Actualização para Windows 10 para Sistemas baseados em x64 (KB3106246)" (ok it is in portuguese...) and "Successfully installed on 12/11/2015". So, apparently the update was successfully installed!
But when I verify the win version (winver) it reports "Version 10.0 (Build 10240)".

    Any help?

    Cheers,
    paulo

(KB3106246) is not the threshold 2 update to 10586, it's just a regular patch.

As I've mentioned before, I checked for updates this morning around 9:30 AM and there were a whole bunch for Lappy 17. Included was Version 1511 (10586.3).

Although as usual, it took around an hour for the update, it's finished now and everything is seemingly OK.

Now I gotta put some programs back on it. And add a few that I use regularly.

Microsoft: Windows 10 Is Now 30% Faster than Windows 7 Thanks to Threshold 2

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/micro...2-496108.shtml

Setting aside DX12 gaming and boot times if you believe this I have a bridge for sale

FWIW on Passmark 64 benchmarks Windows 10 th2 10586.3 is significantly slower than Windows 7 x64 on the HDD and Memory I/O throughput benchmarks
Windows 10 has been like that all along even on the Insider test builds .

    W10 10586.3 x64 PassMark x64 Variation + - from win 7 X64

Tests were run on both OS on 2 NTFS volumes on the same hdd and are repeatable .

The Win 7 x64 results were prior to updating *that NTFS volume to 10240 RTM earlier and 10586.3 gen release as tested yesterday the configuration is otherwise unchanged and the results are similar all along since 10029 in Feb.

    Passmark Rating -120

    CPU -43

    2D GPU -46.1

    3D GPU -4.4

    Memory Mark -356

    Disc Mark -481

OTOH Windows 10 feels like it's faster on some things and not on others it could be the new compression ram page file and hdd caching improvements are helping *some * things out and maybe skewing the PassMark x64 results a little ( or not )
