I'm running Office 2016 on two PC's at the moment. Not the 365 version though, activated with my MSDN keys. Wasn't asked for a key until install was finished and I launched Outlook.
OK, there were some default program changes that I had to go in and fix (search "Choose a default app" and choose "for each type of file" is the quickest way).
* PDF files were now defaulting to Edge (!). It does work, even reading the local files, but I kicked it back to Acrobat Reader.
* Curiously, .HTML changed default from Chrome to Edge, but .HTM stayed with Chrome (as did some other HTML-style files). Kicked that back to Chrome.
* A lot of the sound files moved to Groove Music. Fixed all of them, either to Windows Media Player or VLC Player.
* .DOC and .XLS files won't let me choose OpenOffice as default. I suspect if I want to do that, I'll have to reinstall OpenOffice.
New programs include Skype/Messaging/etc. that we already knew were coming. Microsoft Wi-Fi is on the list, but doesn't appear to be affecting my WiFi connection here at home at this time in any way...so I'm just going to let it sit there for now.
No Candy Crush that I can see :)
So yes, I had to mess with it a bit, but I'm back to where I was.
For the record, my update to 10586.3 was a Windows 10 Professional install that was upgraded the first day or two after RTM went live for the public, and I am not in the Insiders program.
As it says over there to the left, I am in the United States (Northeast Ohio/Cleveland/Akron area).
For those who haven't gotten it yet, either take a breath and wait, or download the various MCT/ISO files from the links all over this thread.
Yes, Microsoft is a massive company, but it's still going to take time to push updates to tens of millions of Windows users around the globe. It's not all going to happen at 10 AM on the "launch day". We're not talking about a small streaming audio or video thing here, we're talking what, a 3 GB file downloaded by millions?
If you can't wait, follow the MCT/ISO download links that are posted about every two pages in this thread.
RamboMcMutNutts, in post 501 you indicated problems with Chrome tiles turning grey - my Mozilla Thunderbird tile turned grey but still has icon and title. Did you figure out a solution to this? Thanks.
