Interesting. How would the setup files be accessed during the clean install since all the files would have been erased?

The ISO was on a USB drive. The clean install went without any problems. It didn't even ask for a key. All I had to do was install a few programs and she was good to go.

I forgot to add this was done while in Windows 10 by mounting it and not from a boot media.

Hello everyone. New here in the boards.

I just upgraded via Update. Everything alright except for the hig HDD usage after the update. does anyone have a clue about this issue? I know it happened when Windows 10 was initially released in july...

Like so many others, WU messed me up. My update history has been wiped out except for the 1511/10586 update. I'm stuck with the update in "restart required" limbo.

I'm currently downloading a 3.7-GB ISO that someone pointed me to. File name is "Win10_1511_English_x64.iso". I'm not even sure this is the latest and right download.

So as usual, everything is made way harder than it should be. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

1st thing I would suggest is BEFORE doing your upgrade is to make a complete disk image of your OS drive, before you update. You can use Macrium Reflect which is free, but make your image backup 1st!!!
That file is the right one, should have both versions home and pro...... assuming you got it from MS....

I'm using my old Technet 8.1 media, so it should be the same as you; however, I wasn't given a choice that I can remember.
You won't be if there is an embedded key in the BIOS. As far as I know TechNet and MSDN ISO's are the same. Also, the Windows 8.1 ISO doesn't offer you a choice of Core or Pro, the key you enter determines which one is installed. If there is no embedded key in the BIOS it just prompts you enter one. Enter a core key and core is installed, enter a Pro key and you get Pro. 8.1 ISO's will accept 8.0 keys too. The "With Update" ones will anyway.
