Microsoft: Windows 10 Is Now 30% Faster than Windows 7 Thanks to Threshold 2

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/micro...2-496108.shtml

Setting aside DX12 gaming and boot times if you believe this I have a bridge for sale

FWIW on Passmark 64 benchmarks Windows 10 th2 10586.3 is significantly slower than Windows 7 x64 on the HDD and Memory I/O throughput benchmarks
Windows 10 has been like that all along even on the Insider test builds .

    W10 10586.3 x64 PassMark x64 Variation + - from win 7 X64

Tests were run on both OS on 2 NTFS volumes on the same hdd and are repeatable .

The Win 7 x64 results were prior to updating *that NTFS volume to 10240 RTM earlier and 10586.3 gen release as tested yesterday the configuration is otherwise unchanged and the results are similar all along since 10029 in Feb.

    Passmark Rating -120

    CPU -43

    2D GPU -46.1

    3D GPU -4.4

    Memory Mark -356

    Disc Mark -481

OTOH Windows 10 feels like it's faster on some things and not on others it could be the new compression ram page file and hdd caching improvements are helping *some * things out and maybe skewing the PassMark x64 results a little ( or not )

Sent from Windows 10 10586.3 Insider build
Thanks and I appreciate your testing results. I feel 30% faster is an exaggerated figure, but there are no references to anything in the article nor from MS themselves. I'd simply like to see there testing results to make such a claim. I'll remain in limbo otherwise.

I take it you tested this on your "upgraded" 2010 HP P7 Desktop? "Upgraded" meaning it is not a OEM stock machine? Will you be testing it on your other machines you mention in your specs by any chance?

OTOH, so far as "speed" with 8's, 8.1's, and 10's OS approach with navigational means, Starts, searching, preloaded MS Store apps, virtual desktops (10), and other features makes them heads-over-heels far quicker at performing work/tasks and gaining/seeing personal data. 7 was a great OS for it's time, no doubt, but old tech so far as new features I just mentioned in the others IMO.

Got bored with trying to update last night so ran MCT and created an install DVD.
I updated from this and all seems to be fine.
As others have noted the update removed Speccy but for me it didn't remove CPU-Z. I reinstalled Speccy but when I ran it Speccy hung on analysing then boom BSOD. Tried again with the same result, not tried yet if I remove CPU-Z it may make a difference.

A major difference I've noticed from build 10240 is you get less options to disable automatic driver downloads now.

    All I see is this:-

Hello I am a newbie here, Thought I would share my experiences with this update.

I live in the UK, Have W10 installed on 3 desktops and 1 laptop, the auto upgrade failed and it wasn't offered again so I took the advice here and used the new media creation tool and selected the upgrade option and everything went through no problem.

For the other PC's I decided to create the ISO but when I tried to upgrade using the DVD it wanted to delete everything and would not let me select the keep option advising that I was using a different language version but I choose the GB English which is what I have on the PC?

In the end I had to do the upgrade from the media tool as on the 1st one which worked fine.

Any advice on why the language was a problem only I would like to have a back up copy on disc but not if it's unsuitable?

Interesting AndreyT, my last in-place upgrade install was done on October 26, 2015 so if it's correct, I will have 13 more days of waiting.

I think what you said sounds logical. I guess I'll do occasional checks but diarise for 31 days since 29th Oct which I think is when my machine got it's delivery/first boot!

    Cheers
My last in-place upgrade install was only 3 days before yours so we'll find out if we have to wait another 13-16 days or not...

    Welcome to TenForums, Scrimper!

I don't know why the language barrier was there, so I'll leave that for others to answer.

I downloaded the Media Creation Tool to my hard drive and then installed it on a Flash Drive. As you were, you are offered the option of "upgrade this PC" or "Create Installation Media for Another PC".

When you create the installation media for another PC, you can use either a flash drive or a DVD drive. Further, you can now update however many PCs you need to. You can even go to your neighbor's house and update his PC if you're so inclined.

I've still been checking my updater and the upgrade hasn't popped up yet...says i am up to date...Is this being sent out in waves?
I'm tempted to just use the upgrading feature of the windows 10 media tool, but was trying to have some patience and wait for it to arrive in the updates...
