First Major Update for Windows 10 Available

I updated my ASUS T100 last night by wiping out the built-in SSD. I had a road block and the installation won't go through using the media creation tool. It stops at 22% and pops a message up that the installation was cancelled. Tried it 3x to no avail. I thought my 10 incher is screwed up and will be a paperweight. I download the ISO from Tech Bench and used a different USB flashdrive. Everything is good now. As for my main PC, I did an in-place upgrade with an ISO and seems to be fine. Still boots up in 10sec just like it did before the upgrade. Seems to be no issue so I will keep it that way for now.
Glad to hear someone else has converted their Asus T100. Was holding off on mine, did a reflect image and noticed that it has 4 partitions, 1=System(100MB), 2=Unformated Primary(120MB), 3= Windows C: (21GB), 4= Recovery(8GB). When installing 10586, I guess it will wipe out all 4 partitions?? Asus has some apps/programs that I like, guess will loose them? My T100 is w8.1 w/bing. Tx

I avoid GeForce Experience like the plague. All it's done for me in the past was cause issues. Just keeps crashing "has experienced a problem and stopped working" message. Something like that. I do a custom install and unselect it. Alond with all the 3D vision stuff. I just install what I need.

When installing 10586, I guess it will wipe out all 4 partitions??
If you run 10586 as an upgrade/update = NO it will not wipe out the 4 partitions...

The windows 10 e mail client UI app linked to my ISP web mail works fine in my windows 10 10586.3 licencenced NTFS partition but on Insider 10586.3 volume . Images wont show in open mail in the e mail client app . It was that way before the last update from 10586 to 10586.3 on the Insider build.
I'll wait and see what the next complete new Insider build brings .
FWIW I've removed and re installed the offending e mail client app and no change .

Interesting, I remembered it did that only once a few years ago with one version when you clicked on a certain tab but they fixed that the next day and it hasn't happened since and has been working fine for me in Windows 7 all the way to Windows 10 RTM. I have 3D on my ASUS G74SX-3DE notebook so I need the 3D Vision.

No you don't have to wipe out the SSD. It's just an option. You can do an online upgrade or in-place upgrade by downloading the ISO. I just chose to do a clean install because I feel that it's building up a lot of crap already and I want to get back more storage space. There's still a 7GB original recovery partition that I need to get rid of. I can't delete it during the upgrade.

Seems like this also explains the issue I was having with Synaptics touchpad.
I basically have to get the synaptics version, as well as the intell rollback which i have now, and then stop windows update from updating these by following the directions.
So it wasn't really a windows 10 issue but more an hp/intel/win 10 interaction and at least has a temporary fix.

What would be the point, if any, of keeping them when doing an upgrade/update? My C: is only 21 GB, could "use" the 8GB from the recovery partition. Also thinking that the image restore should put me back to the starting point if needed??

Well, I know I mentioned earlier in this thread that it's likely to be our impatience that's the cause of many of us having these installation problems, but alas, I gave in and used the 'MediaCreationTool.exe' method! (My excuse is that I am bored and currently housebound by 'Storm Abigail' here in UK but at least I still have the electricity and internet switched on.)
The installation went well on my 64-bit W10 Home laptop and to my great relief all my installed programs remained in place. I just had to adjust a few things like Icon/text sizes etc and some other small tweaks. Currently in the middle of updating another 32-bit W10 Pro machine via MCT and all going well so far. Happy days!
