From the start, when I did get past that blank screen thing by using Reset this PC, Windows 10 has been nothing but troublefree and really, phenomenal.

I have spent my entire time using Windows avoiding in-place upgrades, but this has been great (once I got past that very early hitch).

Why am I seeing smooth sailing, and others are cursing everything associated with Microsoft and having problems by the bucket full?

I don't know. My only guess is that I have a very pedestrian Dell laptop with very little "special" configuration, no external video card, nothing special. .

A lot of that is the PC/ system builders and HDWE device vendors not getting on board for a particular configuration /device or no longer supporting them .

I shudder to think of how many possible "different" configurations there are in the Windows world, and maybe Microsoft doesn't have a 100% handle on a chunk of them
2 of my W10 PC are HP P7's with major upgrades , CPU's, dGPU's ,RAM ,HDD's and sound. I installed my own drivers and blocked automatic driver updates .

The stock HP Elite book Is using HP OEM drivers as is the stock Dell Optiplex 780 with it's OEM drivers I installed again with Windows driver updates blocked .

    Hi there

I don't understand the logic of when the updates become available.

I have two machines running W10 pro (RTM). One updated immediately the update was released (over a week ako at least) whilst FINALLY today the second machine gets its update !!!. 2nd machine is a VM. Note also both machines were logged on in the same place so it's nothing to do with regional or country differences in distribution times.

    Anyway updating nicely now.

    cheers

Hi there, Jimbo. A system will only upgrade after the 30 day rollback option expires.

I went to Softpedia and here's what I found:

    Attachment 50564

Following the link, this was next:

    Attachment 50565

Following this link, I was taken to download:

    Attachment 50566

Soooo, this is a security update for a Microsoft product; however, I was not taken to Microsoft to get it. Instead, I was taken to a download page within Softpedia.
Totally agree with you Wynona. Have to be VERY CAREFUL if using Softpedia. I personally stay away from them.

Yep. And the same exact thing happened when I followed the links to the download of Skype 7.xxx. No Microsoft site in sight; Just Softpedia.

When I download Microsoft product, the only way I'm gonna is to go directly to Microsoft; no passing go and no collecting $200.00!

I myself only use from their site for updates or via store for their product that way you know it is the genuine app

Microsoft is good, but only as good as the drivers supplied to them. :)

    Both...very much correct.

And it probably goes back to what I was saying...I have a very basic, very pedestrian Dell with what I assume are very standard components, your typical onboard video and audio, etc. that is probably similar to whatever is on millions of Dell laptops.

Dell probably got onboard with the Windows 10 drivers early on. But even then, I believe W10 substituted its own audio driver (see my post on the Audacity thread) and it works fine.

That simplicity and common components thing probably helped my 10 upgrade work more smoothly than those with deluxe configurations/gaming video cards/etc. Again, just a theory on my part.

Agreed. I wouldn't even collect $2000.00 and the cards for Boardwalk and Park Place!

The Softpedia screenshot you provided earlier in this thread, the first one...doesn't the English seem a bit overdone?

I have no idea who these people are. I wonder if some see the "pedia" part and think it's an arm of Wikipedia, which everyone uses.

Ah, my thoughts were right, speaking of Wikipedia (which is not linked to Softpedia at all):

Softpedia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is owned by SoftNews NET SRL., a Romanian company.

I don't know why you got the older links. No offense meant, I just wanted to show you what I got. I think some of softpedia links needs to be updated. I am using windows 7 to access that site, if that makes any difference.
