What happens with a single edition setup iso, say Pro on an OEM Home PC is started. What if there is a PID.txt Inserted in Sources?
Pro only will reject the Core key and ask for one. The Windows 8/8.1 ones did anyway. I use a PID.txt with the Pro generic key on my Windows 10 install media so I don't have to select Pro or have to click skip when asked for a key. Have been for a while. All my PC's have digital entitlement for 10 Pro. Pro is installed with no prompt to select and no prompt for a key. They activate with the digital entitlement they had too. I didn't on my last install just to actually see what happens with stock unmodified install media.
Yeah, it was probably me. If you do a change product key and enter the generic Pro key, VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T. It will upgrade to Pro and reboot. Then it checks activation. If that PC has a digital entitlement for Pro it will activate. If it doesn't it won't. It's the equivalent of the Windows 8 add features/ Windows 7 anytime upgrade. Just kind of hidden on you. Entering a Pro retail key would work too. You can also enter an Enterprise key or Education key and upgrade to those versions too. Assuming you have legitimate genuine keys.
Got new Cumulative too, Now it's 10586.14. That might have been the trigger they pulled update for.
