I'm not sure I quite understand you. Are you saying when you upgrade an activated VM from 7 to 1511 it isn't activated any more? This certainly works for me. You aren't trying to use the same key for different VMs are you?
You misread what I posted there. I was saying I was never able to get a 7 VM activated while 10 changed the rule book and I have a few of those on two separate machine activated already. The 10586 Pro vm just saw the upgrade over itself with the Threshold 2 build essentially being the same thing under a different name transfer that activation.

The test VM was to see how well the upgrade from an activated 7 VM to the TH2 release would go. The VM is on the same machine as the other VM.

My desktop has two video cards driving four LCD monitors. When I did the Windows 8.1 Professional x64 upgrade to windows 10, I had just two display working. The upgrade didn't load the driver for one of my display cards. The vendor dropped support stating it the card was obsolete. I manually loaded the Windows 8 driver which worked, but I was unable to reinstall any of the video card utilities.
What make and model card? NVidia or AMD/ATI driven? Those are the two support sites as well as the Windows updates with the check box there for 3rd party updates you should keep checked off. As for the app side on the other hand you may end up doing what was done here for the Creative Audio Console Launcher part missing from the last 8.1 update seen for the older model XtremeAudio PCIe card. While the separate downloads got the EAX running the trip to the Creative support forums revealed the "Unofficial" updates that work on 10!

Likewise you may end up looking for something unofficial beta even at one of those other sites to see the second card working fully again. When 7 was first in beta and going to switch from the 32bit entirely the wait took a year before the Vista/7 64bit update for the tv tuner card finally came out! It was first labeled for Vista x64 only at first.

For the update on 10 came the real winner as far as experimentation went! Being that the same tuner card was discontinued several years back but still in use the 10 installer found a driver that worked but no app! How to get outdated software to work on 10? You don't! Instead of trying to get the original app to work the idea about the app for a newer PCIe model still in the box from not having composite RCA jacks for VHS input which converts the cable box signal into analog in order to be the go between since the tuner while digital is unable to scan the more recent signal. Never could anyways!

Solution? That was it! The app for the other newer PCI Express card apparently using the exact same chip was used on the old PCI expansion card! Works like a champ by finding a close alternate.

Anybody try entering a Windows 8/8.1 Media Center key during a clean install? They must be blocked, but who knows? I never thought to try one.
Are you referring to the Windows product key or the media center key for downloading media center from the store? I upgraded Windows 10 Media Center Pro x64 and it didn't ask for the Windows Product key. I suppose it fetched it from the preexisting install. I also tried to get Media Center from the store with the media center store key, but the store was having no art of that.

I was referring to the actual Media Center Product code you enter through add features. You can't install Windows 8/8.1 with that key. It can only be used to add Media Center from Pro. It looks like you can use it to install Windows 10 Pro though. If you are running 8.1 Pro with Media Center, and do the free upgrade to 10 Pro. You will get the DVD Player App for free. Doesn't show up right away for some reason though. It installs in the background shortly after you upgrade. I did it on several PC's. If you clean install after that though you lose it and it doesn't install again. If you then search for it in the store it shows up as a pay for App, not free. Which kind of sucks if you ask me. It doesn't get added to your My Library in the store.

You can use VLC as a dvd player but I would use the one you download from the VLC website not the one listed in the store.

I find it interesting that the media center product code can be used yo active Windows 10. Microsoft did announce that Media Center is not included or install-able in Windows 10. The mentioned they wanted to save a few pennies on codecs. The DVD player app is one of many apps installed in the background after the OS install. Other than the bundled apps, you can reinstall apps you had bought previously, as long as they are compatible with Win 10. The store can list those previously acquired apps, but you must select the ones you want to reinstall.

Media Center is sufficient "proof of purchase" of qualifying Windows. How else would you have it?

Yeah, I know. The DVD Player App (the free version installed during the free upgrade) doesn't get added to that list though. If you clean install after that and want it, you have to buy it. If you buy it, yes, its then yours forever. The other thing that pisses me off is my "My Library" is littered with Apps I never use, and Apps I never ever used. Log into a new PC with a Microsoft ID and any and all the factory installed App's are added to your "My Library" with no way to remove them from that list. Even if you never launched them and immediately uninstalled them. Try an App and don't like it, same deal.

I haven't confirmed it myself, but it was reported by another forum member that they entered a Media center code and it was accepted. 10 Pro was installed and activated with a Digital Entitlement. All my PC's already have Pro Digital Entitlements, some have Home and Pro entitlements now due to testing I've done. I can't really test a MC key on my systems and will just have to take the word of that member that they work.

Well, technically no. To actually use the Media Center key in Windows 8.1 you have to have an installed and activated 8.1 Pro. Try to clean install Windows 8.0 or 8.1 with it and it will be rejected. Those keys were free for a limited time, that's how I got my 4. Even the pay for ones were relatively cheap. I'm actually surprised they aren't blocked. Don't get me wrong, It's nice that they aren't.
