Microsoft Still Not Willing to Offer Windows 10 for Free to Pirates

An option to buy it will, however, be available

Microsoft has a goal of bringing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017, and there's no doubt that the number one priority right now in Redmond is to upgrade as many Windows 7 users as possible.

But one of the biggest challenges is to convince those running a non-genuine copy of Windows 7 to purchase a Windows 10 license and go legal, so Microsoft is still looking into ways to make the transition more appealing.

Offering Windows 10 free of charge to pirates would be the best way to convince them to upgrade, but for the moment, Microsoft's not willing to do that. Instead, an easy way for Windows 7 users to purchase Windows 10 will be offered as part of an experiment in the United States, which could then be expanded to the whole world.

Until now, no matter if you were running genuine or non-genuine Windows 7, you were offered the upgrade to Windows 10. If your copy of Windows 7 was legitimate and you decided to upgrade, Windows 10 automatically activated once installed. Otherwise, you received a trial version that prompted you to activate at every system reboot.

I have no pity for those that knowingly pirate Windows. On the other side of the coin though, there are some that get sold none genuine systems and or software without knowing it. By the time they find out it's too late to do anything about it. I have no problem with those people getting a break/deal on going legal from Microsoft. They know it happens. One less compromised PC on the Internet.

I think MS should offer it for free, even to pirates.

Have a fresh start, get as many on the new OS as possible. Sometimes you got to think out of the box.

Had a guy down near where I live offering to put windows on their computers.
I asked him about it and he told me he uses a usb stick that he has windows 10 on.
I mentioned to him about non genuine windows on my computer his attitude was he was out to make money.
When I pointed out to him people could get it free, and told him he was conning people and that I had genuine on mine the admin on the Facebook page he was on stepped in and told him to remove his advert.
Then barred him on all the sites she ran,
Two people who had told him they would have it then thanked me.
I am going to their homes tomorrow to install windows 10 on their computers both had windows 8.1 but don't know what to do being senior citizens like me.
I told them I will do it free but dropped hint I like coffee so will have hopefully free coffee coming up

The issue for me with non-genuine Windows is the increased danger of spreading malware and that can affect users and providers. For security reasons I favor giveaways to those who were scammed into a non-genuine copy. The pirates know what they are getting into so I don't feel they should benefit from any giveaways.

No.. just flat out no. Theft if theft and I for one would not applicate it if pirates were rewarded with a free copy of 10. Accepting theft is not thinking outside of the box. Far from it.
