FWIW on 3 Winows 10 PC's here including this dual boot RTM/10565 box Chrome 64 bit is my default browser of choice it works fine same for the 7 x64 workstation .

Edge is still unstable with a few tabs open they can keep it at this point .

Although rumored as such, but where is it written that MS plans on “dumping IE”? Please reference.

The links you refer to may be in a specific program, help files, and/or readme files, but those links call on the OS to open the default browser to open the specified page. It will open Edge if configured as default browser just as any other browser. At least so far it's been performing that way for me since 1st preview build. Perhaps you've run into such a problem? If so, what program?

Due to all that MS had to leave IE intact only without a shortcut being found on the Start tile area, Task bar, or a folder in the AllApps there but yet still found in the Program Files and Program Files)x86) folders! You simply click to pin the "iexplorer.exe" file for either or both the 32bit and/or 64bit flavors of IE 11 if you are not using any other alternate.

IE11 has been in the Accessories folder in All apps section of the Start menu since 1st preview build. Really no need to chase for it anywhere else. Right click brings up the context menu to pin to “Pin to Start” and/or “Pin to Taskbar” as shown below. The context menu looks to be knew as of recent builds, but IE11 has always been in the Accessories folder.

As a side note and interesting that the uninstall link opens "Programs and Features". One must click on "Features" there to turn IE off. You are correct that it does not uninstall it, but rather turns it off as with all other Features. They are all integral features of the OS, therefore cannot be uninstalled.

As for Edge that's hardly even out of the Alpha, Beta stages and far from an actual full featured browser to replace IE with! Here I couldn't barely arrange the bookmarks you could only import by way of IE which you first have to locate and pin before you can use that even! Smart thinking! MS put out a browser no one can even use and hide IE away?! Brilliant for dufus move! Cortana is the only thing there at moment that is even worth the look while many will be looking for some other 3rd party app for file searches on the local drives like the Everything app.

Edge is definitely out of the “Alpha, Beta stages” otherwise they wouldn’t have released it along with/in RTM 10240. It may not have some of the features that are in IE or other browsers and may need maturing in some of those ways, but it has its own unique features that others do not have. This is all proportional to what one uses a browser for.

I’m a long time away from 7 and IE10. I thought it was time to move on a long time ago. Good for its time, but old tech to me.
