Microsoft to Discontinue Old Internet Explorer Versions in January

    Posted: 15 Oct 2015

Now that Microsoft has replaced Internet Explorer with Edge in Windows 10, the company’s exclusively focusing on its new browser, so moving users to this version has become a priority.

Unfortunately for the software giant, it can’t get rid of Internet Explorer overnight, but what it can do is kill off some of the old versions and slowly switch users to newer builds. That’s exactly what the company will be doing on January 12, 2016, when it’s killing support for several old versions of Internet Explorer.
As gHacks notes, a notification on Microsoft’s Lifecycle website calls for users to update their browsers before this date, pointing out that only the latest version on each supported Windows release will continue to receive updates and security patches.
As a result, on Windows Vista SP2, Internet Explorer must be updated to version 9, while on Windows 7, 8.1, and 10, Internet Explorer 11 is the currently-supported build.

Will this free up some resources at Microsoft? Edge needs a little work!

Edge needs a lot of work to be browser leader! Blocking undesirable Pop Up, extension, etc.
However, it is going in the right direction!

It's about time. Some of the older versions of IE are junk and they need to be trashed.

Hey kids, let's get together on a Kickstarter project and start the "Internet Explorer Foundation". We can make an open source Internet Explorer for the world. Hey we can even make Internet Explorer for Linux and Apple. It will be great!

Chirp, chirp, chirp (sound of crickets). What? No? I didn't think so. Well then, I'll just stay with Edge and Foxfire.

I'd like to see them fix the "cascading bug" for Edge (and Windows Explorer for that matter) first. Though I haven't been able to figure out if the bug exists in the latest Insider builds, it certainly exists in the latest release version.

Bug: Open an Edge non-maximized and position it in the upper left corner of the screen. Close the window. Open a new Edge window. You will see that the new window opens in the same place as it would have if you would have left the first window open; cascaded.
