Redmond says Windows 10 is a hit in South Korea

Microsoft revealed at the October 6 event in New York that Windows 10 was running on 110 million devices across the world, but the company didn't provide any specifics for particular markets.

Today, however, the head of the Windows group at Microsoft, Terry Myerson, has revealed after a press conference held by LG in Soul, Korea, that Windows 10 is already very successful on the local market where it experiences an adoption that's five times faster than Windows 8’s.

While it would be interesting to see how Windows 10's adoption actually compares to something that's a little bit more successful than Windows 8, such as Windows 7, it's still encouraging to see Microsoft's new operating system performing so well on global markets from its very first months of availability.

    “We love our partners”

Myerson obviously reiterated Microsoft's intentions to work together with partners and improve the market share of Windows 10 in the country even more, especially because it needs the operating system on as many devices as possible.

“In Korea, there are over 22,000 different types of devices already running Windows 10 with over 1 billion hours spent on Windows 10 since launch. We’re seeing strong share growth and see great potential to grow our Windows business in Korea, while working closely with partners to increase distribution of Windows 10 devices around the world,” Myerson said.

Microsoft has a goal of bringing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017 and this is only possible if OEMs, which are building PCs, laptops, and tablets running on the operating system, are on its side, so it's critical for the company to stay close to these companies and show them that they have its support.

At the same time, however, Microsoft continues investments in hardware, which for some is really worrying, so it'll be interesting to see how the software giant actually manages to go forward with both its software and hardware businesses.

I think people were afraid of Windows 8 because it was too different. But those of us who have been hands on with Windows for a long time didn't have much trouble beating it and much better 8.1 into the shape we wanted. Windows 10 may well come out on top later, but for now I still say 8.1 is the best version of Windows ever.

Besides all my other computers and tablets I have a Mac Mini with Windows 10 running in Bootcamp, so I'm on a Mac forum as well as Windows forums. I can tell you this, Mac people love Windows 10 and a lot have upgraded.

While I personally loved Windows 8.1 and didn't really need a menu I can understand some people needing it, it certainly looks like Microsoft is back on track.

I'm not surprised. Being a free upgrade from 7/8.1 would jump start adoption.. that and it's more like 7 and it made adjustment a bit easier then 8 did.

I personally never had any problems adjusting to Windows 8 and found it way easier to navigate than Windows 7, I rarely used the Menu in 7 anyway, so it was no biggie to me.

I was meaning that the public at large had some issues/complaints about 8 early on.

Let's see, it's a free upgrade, but only free for 1 year. I bet the adoption rates are much higher in year 1. Bet it slows when it comes time to pay.

Just think how much faster Windows 10 would be adopted if Microsoft had paid us to try it.

"Microsoft: Windows 10's Adoption Is Five Times Faster than Windows 8's"

In reality it's like comparing apples to oranges. Giving away an OS has far too much weight into the comparison, let alone the "Auto Upgrade to 10" "Feature" they supposedly accidentally added! They will undoubtedly be hailing it at the most popular OS ever as well when I still think 7 will always be better.
