Yep... all retail, Win 7 COA , OEM:NONSLP as well as OEMM keys should be fine - my concern is that Win 7 OEM:SLP keys are generic and won't work on a clean installs without prior digital entitlement - gonna do some testing tonite and check various scenarios. Good on you for backing up your keys though.
Have you ever used a Belarc key that worked for re-installs, they never worked for me.
I don't care for it because they have removed so many things from previous builds that our household uses. Why give up better versions for 10? The only legitimate answer I can think of, is if you had a pirated version. It is to limiting in my opinion.

Boozad,
That would also actually apply to the retail version of 7 & 8.1 as well wouldn't it?
From reading the article. You do a clean install of the current insider build, once you installed 10. You change your 10 key to windows 7 or 8.1 key and hopefully activates. The question is do you remain an insider or are you no longer an insider? Zdnet is just theorizing how you do the key. When it is released to the public, we should get more details on how that works.
Windows 7 Oemslp keys, you would need to use the OEM key listed on the back or bottom of your computer.
Boozad I have two machines that have Windows 10 pro. I have also created images of each as a failsafe when they had 8.1 pro on them. I also still have the created software when I purchased them. I have done first off the update to windows 10 and it did give me the Pro Version. those are also backed up as image files.
I have done factory installs from media and no problems I have restored images with no problems. i purchase 8.0 Pro when way back I signed up for testing and got a copy for 39 dollars. this works well doing updates and clean installs.
I feel that I have done just about everything one can do and it all works fine. I am a insider and I have opted out and then back in and if I would have followed Brinks tutorial then I would have had no probems.
I am not worried at this point.

There is a special file called pkeyconfig-downlevel that has been added to the lastest build.
As noted above OEM:SLP keys are excluded.

@Superfly
What do you mean by direct upgrade?
All,
This is how I assume things will be done but I could be wrong.
For those who have OEM:SLP keys.
If doing an upgrade from windows 7 OEM:SLP. Change your key to the one on the back or bottom of machine. Activate, reboot, then install windows 10 using windows update, iso or media creation tool. This should also allow you to do a clean install of windows 10 in the future without using a key. If you want to do a clean install, install windows 10, then you would need to insert or change your windows 10 key to windows 7 oem key that listed on the back or bottom of the machine. It is still not clear how the windows 7/8.x key is going to be inserted.
After my testing with builds and the release. I actually prefer the upgrade route. It keeps everything installed.
