You can stop; he's getting the build update downloading now.
    Hola.

Thanks for your help again, guys! Dunno why it's downloading so slowly on my laptop (5 GHz band, sitting right next to the router), but on my desktop I'm at 92% downloaded.

Question: Is there a universal dark theme for these newer builds? I saw the announcement about the title bars being coloured if you have that option checked in Personalization (I do not), but I'd still like to see more than just the Mail app with a dark theme.

Is it possible that your desktop is "wired" to the router and your laptop is "wireless"? I had the slow download on Lappy 15 today because it's wireless. Wired always gets a faster connection to the Internet.

If you would, LifeWulf, please go to the Windows Insider Group to post your question about the dark theme.

Here's what has been added to this latest version:

-- A new mode now sets the last printer you used as your default printer. If this doesn't work for you, you can change this behavior in Settings > Devices > Printer & Scanners. The ability to set a default printer by network location is no longer an option.

-- It is reportedly easier to activate Windows 10 on devices that take advantage of the free upgrade offer to genuine Windows by using existing Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 product keys.

If you install this build of the Windows 10 Insider Preview on a PC and it doesn’t automatically activate, you can enter the product key from Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 used to activate the prior Windows version on the same device to activate Windows 10 by going to Settings > Update & security > Activation and selecting Change Product Key.

If you do a clean install of Windows 10 by booting off the media, you can also enter the product key from prior Windows versions on qualifying devices during setup.

-- There's some aesthetic tweaking: new icons, improved context menus on Start, more colorful title bars (adjust the color by going to Settings > Personalization > Colors)

-- Cortana can now understand notes you've inked/written, and if you make digital annotations, she can set reminders by location or time.

-- In Microsoft Edge, users can hover over a browser tab and get a preview of the page (without having to be in the active window); they can also test-drive a new feature that lets users sync Favorites and Reading List items.

-- Desktop Windows 10 users can preview Skype messaging, calling and video capabilities via Messaging, Phone and Skype video universal Windows apps; this is the realization of Microsoft's promise to integrate Skype's capabilities all through Windows 10.

    Here's what's been fixed:

-- Context menus are now smaller so they're easier to use with a mouse.

-- You can pin contacts to the Start menu from the People app. And when you pin apps to the taskbar, they won't appear twice any more.

-- Hiding desktop icons via the Context menu now works.

-- Windows Store apps are now updating automatically.

-- "You should no longer see a warning message in the Settings app > Update & Security > Windows Update regarding changed ring settings for preview builds unless you actually change your ring settings."

Yeah, that would be it. Though they both got to the "ready to install" stage around the same time. Updating my desktop first, need my laptop for some programming assignment.

    Sure thing, thanks again!

EDIT: Uh, so, would this be a good place to mention that the update broke my BOOTMGR on my desktop, or should I start a new thread? How would I go about fixing that? Currently posting from an Ubuntu install on an external USB drive. Accidentally initiated the upgrade on my laptop, though at least that one seems to be progressing smoothly.

Edit (again): never mind, turns out having the external drive plugged in was what broke the updating process! Derp. Hopefully I'll have one of these machines in working order soon. Laptop was just spazzing out with the loading flickering across the entire screen, but it's back on the "Upgrading Windows" screen (interesting that lappy says "upgrading" while desktop says "updating"). Edit: never mind, desktop rebooted, switched monitors, corrected resolution and now says "Upgrading" as well!

Love this, this will save a lot of headaches especially in Bootcamp.

So, will this resolve the "Evaluation copy" text I now have on the bottom right of my desktop, or is that normal? Windows says it's activated in the Settings...

Nope, because this is an evaluation copy. :) That's what being an insider is; we get to see new features before everyone else does.

Derp. Of course. Ah well, at least now I'll never wonder what build I'm running! Seems my lappy just finished, too!

So, what this means is that I can't use my Retail Windows 7 or 8.1 product key to install Windows 10 if I build a new PC. And yeah, I still have a couple or three Retail copies of Windows 7 Ultimate that aren't tied to any machine.

Not very convenient for me if I have to first install a legitimate Retail copy of 7 or 8.1 before I can use my key to install Windows 10.
