I haven't read Win 10 can be installed on an external, but don't know for sure.
I don't think you can download the 9860 update file for a manual install.
How much space do you have for the Win 10 partition ?

OK Clean Install of 9860 went fine and I now have Sleep and Hibernate timing out correctly after installing Update KB3010668.

    Windows 10 Preventing Sleep Mode

Is the update KB3010668 for the new Windows 10, and was it automatically pushed down by Microsoft to repair issues of preventing the computer of going into sleep mode?

If you don't have sleep option available, check BIOS/UEFI settings. Disable S4-S5 mode and drop back to S3. Reboot and sleep should be available.

It could also be the graphic card driver. When I lost the sleep option a graphic card driver update fixed it.
