Microsoft Could Kill the Entire Surface Tablet Lineup... Surface

Well, the projects are not that important really.. But more of a side effect of the fact that Visual Studio can only open one solution at a time.. So you typically end up with multiple solutions open, and Visual studio is a huge memory hog.. typically taking 800-1.5GB of memory depending on the size of the solution for each instance.

Throw in IE, which tends to chug up memory, Outlook, word, and all the other tools you tend to run and 8GB runs out very quickly.

No, don't be ridiculous, that's not it at all. People know, but they don't care. The majority of people see tabs as toys, that is the bottom line and it ain't gonna change.

Sure, there are some, a select few who really do need a powerful windows tab, but woefully few for marketing purposes.

Yes, I know, the regular crowd will shuffle in and tell me just how wrong I am, but the facts speak for themselves....

To be fair, an iPad can have a keyboard connected to it, and it can run fairly full fledged apps, like Office 365 now. It even has an adapter to plug it into a larger display. It's still relatively crippled in its storage capacity though, and memory capabilities. But, if your needs are relatively light (word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, browsing, or even running remote apps from a virtual machine..) you could use it as a desktop and take it with you.

But, the surface is definitely a full fledged desktop replacement capable for a lot of people if they wanted to.

Oh I absolutely agree. I was just talking about over all perception of the form factor... and in general terms.

Personally, were I ever to spend a couple grand on a device, it would not be a tablet, unless of course there existed a circumstance whereby absolutely no other device would suffice. I suspect that I'm not alone.

My Surface Pro has pretty much taken over most of my computing needs. I use it as a more-flexible-than-ipad tablet and as a desktop replacement connected to a big monitor, keyboard and great trackpad.

My desktop AIO is used when I want to futz with OS's and the big storage is a plus for that compared to the SP, and I run iTunes, Caibre` and PlayOn all the time to share books, music and video.

The SP is a great box but it certainly is at the high end of the Windows laptop world in price.

I am curious if you have some sort of 3G, 4G or LTE setup so you can take it where ever you go?

I see the lack of being able to use it where ever you go, as the number one failure of the Surface units. Do the Surface tablets even have some sort of mobile support base, like AT&T, Verison, etc.?

I never looked at the Surface (non-pros), but I thought there was a model available with some sort of cell data setup.

On the Surface Pro it isn't available, but I have used my phone as a mobile hotspot with it a few times.
