For those who have an Office 365 2013 subscription and need instructions on upgrading to Office 365 2016, here's the URL:

How do I upgrade to Office 2016 if I have an Office 365 subscription? - Office 365

    Have fun and enjoy!

Just installed and activated. I didn't have to do anything in Outlook, it worked right out of the box with all my saved settings and info from Office 2013.

Nice how they have effectively "tripled" the price of Home & Student. It used to come with 3 licenses; now, for the same price, it only comes with one. I think they did this same pricing for 2013, but I didn't buy it, so I don't know for sure.

I always thought if you are a student or teacher you would get office for free. Does Microsoft just give the schools a bunch of student office disk/keys for free and the school passes it out to the students and teachers?

I have a friend who teaches Office and I can tell you her school district doesn't get free product from Microsoft. They're still using Windows 7 and won't upgrade to Windows 10 because they didn't have the money to pay an IT Tech a few weeks ahead of the start of school to do it.

As an aside, it's one of the poorest school districts in our county and she doesn't even get textbooks for her students. They're using Office 2013 and I gave the teacher an Office 2013 book I was no longer using for at least creating lesson plans with.

When you think about it, Microsoft would go broke if they supplied Office to all the school districts in the US.

    Wynona,

Maybe more schools are using the open source office suites that why Microsoft no longer doing the free office for students and teachers. I remembering hearing on the news in the past that Microsoft gave students and teachers free office software mostly it was colleges.

Well, this one's a high school, so that may be the difference. She's been teaching for over 30 years so I'll ask her when she gets home; they can't use their cell phones at school. What's good for the student is good for the teacher. :)

When I looked at office.microsoft.com, only the perpetual version of Office 2016 was listed as being "Home and Student". Office 365 was listed merely as Home or Personal.

    @Wynona

I found something. It is a little different now then it was in the past. You might want to show this to the school.

    Students

Get Office free from your school

Office 365 Education Plus is available for free to students who are enrolled at qualifying schools. Install Office on up to 5 PCs or Macs and on other mobile devices, including Android™, iPad®, and Windows tablets. And access Office 365 services like 1 TB OneDrive online storage and Yammer.

Non-profits can get Office Suites with a heavy discount from Techsoup. The non-profit I contract with is just waiting for Office 2016 to pop up, then we're gonna grab a few copies of the Professional Plus version for $40 each.

    Thanks, Groze! This is fantastic!

The school is most likely eligible. Teach told me their accreditation, but I don't remember what she said, but it's low! Our county is financially depressed . . .
