    Windows 10 Insider Preview
       11 Oct 2015 #631

    @LifeWulf

This is only a few days old and just might work for you.

For Insiders using Builds 10041 thru 10166:
If you are running a Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10041 through 10166, you have a short window where you can perform an upgrade to the current build, however to do this, you must take action before October 15, 2015. After this date, you will need to perform a boot from media installation of Windows 10 RTM and opt-in to the Windows Insider Program to continue to get new Preview builds. Because your Preview build has already expired, it is no longer activated. As a result, you’ll be required to use the Windows 10 default product key to upgrade, and afterwards you will not be activated. Therefore, please do the following:

    1. Use the Windows media creation tool to launch the upgrade to Windows 10 (RTM) or create USB media that will allow upgrade to Windows 10 (RTM).
    2. You will be asked to enter a product key. Please use the Windows 10 default product key that matches your Windows 10 Edition:

    • Windows 10 Home Edition: YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7
    • Windows 10 Pro Edition: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
Please note that these keys will only allow setup to continue and will not grant a license or allow activation.

    3. After installation, you will be running the released version of Windows 10 (Build 10240) and will not be activated. You will then want to opt into the Insider Preview’s next flight:
    • Open the Start Menu and click on Settings.
    • Select Update and Security.
    • Select Windows Update and click Advanced Options.
    • Click the Get Started link and follow the process for re-joining your PC to the Windows Insider Program.

Yes, it's RTM/Final public release, although with this new "final 10"/ last Windows ever, they'll have RTMs/Builds/Releases/Upgrades or whatever they may be called.

Question > Can someone with an RTM 10240 turn on Insider builds as LifeWulf/we have in advanced options? That's what strange to me about LifeWulf's system. Obviously he's not running an Insider build, but yet has that Advanced screen.
If it's of any help, on my 10240, upgraded from 8.1, I also get invitation to join insider program although I have insider 10547 in dual boot on another disk and 'am an insider since the beginning. Didn't try it but button is active.

    Thanks, Mike.

Looks like Wyn didn't have the time to report anything yet, however what she reported in her last post it looks to be that one can get preview builds via RTM.

    My 2 cents:
I'm triple booting 10240, 10547 and 10558, all clean installs, all activate automatically, I get Insider Builds as soon as I add my MS Account.

Thanks, Edwin. That's on your "registered" Insider machine, yes? Let's take the scenario of a brand new self-built or OEM machine with 10240 RTM on it. Can that rig be configured to receive Preview builds?

Yes, that's on my 'branded' machine!

Very good question about the self built/OEM machine, though.
    Here's the thing:
Aside from having the 'free upgrade' on this machine, I also have purchased Windows 10 Pro outright.
However, when I perform a clean install and enter my 'purchased' key, there is no difference that I can detect within the build, same diagnostic tracking, etc., etc., etc.
Mind you, we're talking about this 'branded' machine! I'm curious if things would be different on a 'clean box'!
Maybe W10 RTM isn't ready for that, who knows!?

Anyway, I would assume anyone with an MS account who has registered as an Insider could opt for Eval Builds.

Yes. The machine that I am running preview builds on I just made earlier this year from scratch. It is a cobbled together PC with new and old parts and it is running nicely on build 10547.

    Thanks, Edwin and Rocky.

Yes, "clean box" and "registered as an Insider" are the key things here, Edwin.

Here's another question > Is the Insider program still being offered? Will it start the process for someone new? It looks as though it is, but I cannot tell what happens if I press the "Get started" button on this page Home page - Windows Insider Program for it signs me in automatically due to signing into my PC with my MS account. When I am signed in the next page mentions nothing about Windows 10, but rather others things such as Developers tools, WP10, Hardware Dev Kits, etc.

I could make a local account to experiment, but I'm having enough problems with this build and don't want to take the risk. Just yet anyway.

I can be the sacrificial lamby pie and turn it on with Lappy 15's RTM partition. I can always go back and reinstall 20240 later.
Thing is, Wyn, if this is a "branded" box (or partition) as Edwin states, then it is not a "virgin" box to experiment with, yes? It will most likely receive new builds if configured.

Again, I have an unbranded W7 box I could experiment with, but not sure I want to use the license to do so.

    EDIT:

I checked that page again and it does have a "Get Windows 10" button which is right next to the "Phone" button. I overlooked that thinking it was "Get Windows 10 Phone".
