I still have my working copy of rufus-2.3 - and I would be happy to send you a copy of it - if you wish.

Used Rufus 1.8, 2.2 and 2.4. On all of them it gave me same error of "Disk in use" in 10547, 10532 and 10240 ISOs. USB 32GB had 10240 on it. Than I used EASUS partition master to kill partition, made new one in NTFS and Rufus worked. Of course, I didn't install windows from it but it boots up just fine.
Moral of the story, use freshly partitioned and formatted USB and it should work.

Count, I tried formatting several times to no avail on 10547! No matter what I did, it just wouldn't work.

All of my stuff is 64 bit.

Seems that the key is in making brand new partition not only formatting it.

Partition on what? The USB stick? I've never even thought about doing that!

Anything storage has to have a partition even if it's only one.

You have to admit Mike it's not really something you would think of doing with a USB key as a regular thing.

No, but I often use it to make sure there's nothing left on a device, formatting does not affect every byte. Next step up would be a safety erase where each bit is overwritten once or multiple times.
