Microsoft pushes Windows 10 upgrade to PCs without user consent

No I am not kidding! I know someone when they first got a nice little gift from "Hubby" namely an older model Vista laptop some years back the connection was by satellite at first where I asked and got told that person was being charged by the page. Apparently charged by the site depending on how time was spent on each one. I thought that was ridiculous at the time but knew from the first cell phone sometimes you can get into some raw deals!

I don't get upset Lee , i just like playing the part as being outraged , (although waiting over 8 hours for Win 7 updates is brutal), i get a kick out of it . You always make me smile , so predictable, but i am as well lol.

I sure would like to know, how can a company tell how long your on a website? So, I guess for reading a long website on a limited connection, I would use browser that will allow you to work off-line. A lot of browsers have taken that option off. I just thought once you download a webpage to a browser, you are not using that connection any longer (unless you are streaming video/music).

If I stream a 300 MB video that is what is deducted, if I visit a page that has 500 KB of data then that is what gets deducted. Big reason I use AdBlock, every byte counts. Some sites do constantly refresh so have to be careful about that.
Bottom line though is data is data no matter what I'm doing.

Given the long awareness of privacy in Redmond, then, the virulent attacks against Windows 10 this summer came as an unwelcome surprise. Critics have accused Windows 10 of spying on customers and collecting data for nefarious purposes, and those criticisms,
despite a lack of supporting evidence, have persisted.

MS' own statements caused the issue (initially).
Once reports started surfacing about the Privacy switches not preventing the transmission of data, it escalated.
The Automatic Updates issue only made it worse.
MS seems to think that because they "own" the OS, they own your PC too.
If they want total control of my PC, then they can supply me with a $5K desktop any time they want and I won't complain that they own it.

They could count the number of "Ad Breaks" you get sent.

I love that idea! There is also Linux which is looking better and better. Sorry, I am not totally invested with cloud, tablets, phones, etc, like the younger crowd. I want my PC to do what I want it to do with nothing forced or pushed or shady background stuff going on. Linux is looking better and better.
Then again, I'll probably be dead in 10-20 years. New folks at the wheel now.

Yeah , i can't even figure a basic computer out so no smartphone's or tablets for me , i never get phone calls from anyone anyway , if my phone rings , i know it's a wrong # .
Death can't come quick enough for me either , where is a banana peel at the top of a steep staircase when you need one?
