That's good to hear! When first buying a laptop for someone as a gift I ended having to clean stuff someone else who borrowed it put on. Then a son borrowed it constantly until reminded it was someone else's! And once that person got ill and ended up elsewhere under chronic care for respiratory and other concerns I have it kept under lock and key until there to set it up for the afternoon type visit. And there won't be any concern over the 10 app previously since I already upgraded it to 10!

Can't see an intrusion when 10 was already put on by other options! I still have the original system image made of the laptop's drive tucked away just in case however which is sort of doubtful since the 64bit 10 Home makes for a good replacement of the 32bit 7 Home Premium I would think!

When my sis got a laptop, I set it up for her and got rid of the heavy music and games on it. I set it up with games she would like, protections, all the necessary things and a pretty wallpaper. Every time I went to visit, she ask me to reset her wallpaper. No telling what else was on it. Every family member that came in would use it and change the settings to what they thought should be.

The only issue I have with the process is the opposite, I have a Notebook that is ready and waiting but it never gets the Notification that the Upgrade is ready.

You don't have to wait for and let MS install the upgrade.
I never reserved a W10 upgrade, i upgraded W7 to W10 using the Media Creation Tool, when i wanted to.

    See this tutorial by Brink:
    Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums

I created a Macruim Backup Image before the upgrade, in case i need to go back to W7.

Just my luck, after posting I just got the updates window with the notice about Win10. I DID have to click to start the install, wasn't automatic.

Mine wasn't automatic, I reserved it. From what I understand people are getting it partially downloaded without reserving or asking for it.

One kid and would simply stalling things like the browser he wanted on instead of simply borrowing it and leave it the way it was. I guess people of varying ages assume once you loan it they own it!

Don't forget the download Window 10 also explains some other things like all the options like creating the usb media, burning 10 on disk, or saving it to folder to have onhand. Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums[2]=Installation%20and%20Setup

Well the description I heard a few times on different threads was that the poster woke up and found 10 was already on. I wasn;t on the trheads at the time however to ask for any specifics. It would seem to suggest the necessary files were already downloaded like the Windows Installer tool would be ready to download the installation files separately as I saw on Sept. 1st. Took long enough and why the second email from MS after the first for confirmation came in had suggested not waiting with a link to the Media Creation tool page. Any one who went ahead and reserved their free copy should have already received the two separate emails possibly ending up in the junk mail folder and missed. This is what the second shows.

When will my free upgrade arrive?

You’ve already reserved, so your free upgrade is on the way. This is the largest software upgrade event ever and we’re managing it so everyone has a great experience.

Your notification to upgrade could come as soon as a few days or in a few weeks.

In the meantime, you can always check your upgrade status in the Get Windows 10 app. Find the app by clicking on the Windows icon on your task bar.

Here are some common questions about the upgrade process. Click on the links for answers.

Absolutely can’t wait? You have a couple of options to get your upgrade sooner:
    1. Visit a Microsoft Store for free upgrade services.
    2. Use the Media Creation Tool to install immediately on one or more devices (recommended for tech-savvy users only).

I saved that as a reference since the link was included while by that time had already downloaded 10 Pro but went back later for the Home edition and the combo ISO for that already having both downloads for the Pro. Later finally someone else asked the same question I had about unlocked ISOs to see an alternative for coming both editions on the Pro combo media to have both in both the 32bit and 64bit flavors. Solved How to make 4 in 1 installation USB? - Windows 10 Forums

Here I had multiple systems including one 7 Home Premium laptop and possibly a 3rd desktop and two more laptops if not even a 4th of 5th desktop eventually that will need an upgrade where this type of media will be an asset since I already have the media on dvd as well as seeing separate usb sticks for each edition, each flavor. Once I set a machine up with 10 I can simply leave the media or a Recovery Drive I make up with 8gb flash drives that go onto a key chain holder for anyone who wants 10 that is!

That's the important thing to remember about all this is that people are getting 10 whether they want it or not which could easily back fire in MS's face! It's not a good way to make a change on how things are done but not first getting a feeling of just who will remain part of the customer base when simply pushing it in people's faces! I think this is why there's also a feedback option seen with the free upgrade as you would if this had been an Insider or TeckNet download to offer just that!

Sorry this one is a bit personal, won't do it again.

Thank you leopard. I will be 79 next January and quickly approaching my expiration date. I love this crazy machine, I was 65 when I bought my first one. I am very independent and was determined to learn it. You are right about seniors not growing up with them and they are not stupid. When I bought my first I realized it was the future and bought 5 new computers for family members that still had small children and one for a suicidal nephew, his mom said I saved his life. I really don't like what MS is doing to us.
Emma, you are one kind and beautiful lady for what you did. You are also very knowledgeable on the inner-workings of computers. I'm 70 and very technically and technology stupid when it comes to computers....but I did quite well when I had XP!

Thank you Juliet. Windows 7 is my favorite OS, but it was a bit more frustrating to learn than the previous ones.
