I sure would like to know, how can a company tell how long your on a website? So, I guess for reading a long website on a limited connection, I would use browser that will allow you to work off-line. A lot of browsers have taken that option off. I just thought once you download a webpage to a browser, you are not using that connection any longer (unless you are streaming video/music).
The owner and even manager of any web site will see your IP address as well as how long you visited while it will be the ISP who will be the one charging you since they can track everything! That's who provides the service to begin with. Law enforcement can even see to subpoenaed ISP records when putting a stop on illegal activities. So "Big Brother" is also able to watch at times!

And for you popeye this was something I got told by the owner of the laptop who lacks in understanding a number of things when originally making that statement. Nothing was specific but could well have been from downloads as well as anything else besides simply browsing. At the time I found the charged for page to be a little obscure from what was actually going on. That was about 5 or 6yrs. ago however when hearing that one.

Yeah , i can't even figure a basic computer out so no smartphone's or tablets for me , i never get phone calls from anyone anyway , if my phone rings , i know it's a wrong # .

Death can't come quick enough for me either , where is a banana peel at the top of a steep staircase when you need one?
I am 67 and have got all the latest upgrades and smart phone, I have to as I live with my young grand daughters who are into that and I have to keep up with it all because if any of it goes wrong they bring it to me to sort out, and also all their computers and tablets have windows 10 on so it is me that sorts it all out.
Do I enjoy it of course I do it keeps me young and my brain active and will do so in many years to come
Also thank goodness we are not on metered the amount they are on line and myself also, they are on face book 24/7 on their smartphones

I love that idea! There is also Linux which is looking better and better. Sorry, I am not totally invested with cloud, tablets, phones, etc, like the younger crowd. I want my PC to do what I want it to do with nothing forced or pushed or shady background stuff going on. Linux is looking better and better.

Then again, I'll probably be dead in 10-20 years. New folks at the wheel now.

Even with Linux, some distro have similar things but they don't hide it. Have you ever read Opensuse gnome eula? It is interesting to say the least. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a link to the Opensuse gnome EULA but Opensuse now has two newer released versions but the download links seem messed up.

I understand. I'm in a similar situation, only mine is younger. She lives on the phone, facebook and instant messenger. I have trouble keeping up. She can type faster with 2 thumbs than I can on this keyboard.

This page seems to work good and some links on it for License, Documentation, etc. It's a larger download than what I've used for other distributions/distros, am running Linux Mint 17.2 on a Desktop and a Notebook.
