It wasn't only the W8 Start Screen that people took exception to.

At least in W10 Start Menu, the "Metro" tiles don't cover the whole screen (unless you want them too).

Download GWX Control Panel - MajorGeeks Control Panel will help to rid your system tray of the 'Get Windows 10' notification from continually popping up. It can also prevent unintentional Windows 10 upgrades from occurring via Windows Update. GWX Control Panel really works, is safe and easy to use, and gives you the option to re-enable the icon and upgrade notifications if you're ever ready to move forward with Windows 10.

And what would that be? A new area for resizeable tiles pertruding off of one side of the Start menu perhaps? We knew MS was working on a dual platform to begin with but at least 10 offers a Desktop option while you didn't find that in 8 or 8.1!

You couldn't see that with 8 or 8.1! You had to download some 3rd party option instead!

From what I understand 8.1 was a bit better then 8 there while still lacking for the desktop platform still being a bit too Metro. Also I have the 8.1 Enterprise edition presently on VM here for a lookover at 8.1 and haven't been much impressed so far. And I knew it would take a few versions for MS to finally work things out if they were going to be able to keep the desktop OS portion alive and well. And as for not having the time that wasn't by intent but simply having other matters to tend to that came up. With 8 I had already seen enough the first time around and wasn't impressed!
First, thanks for your post on dual booting

Next, when I use windows 8 and 8.1. I much prefer them over Windows 10, for numerous reasons. I believe for the Metro (Modern Apps) Windows 8 is a far more elegant choice for navigation. If Microsoft had not removed the Windows 7 menu, we wouldn't even be looking at the new Windows 10. Even with that 7 is still my preferred OS, but even 8 stripped away much of the functionality of windows 7.

NOTE: (I use both Start8 and Classic Menu, I probably prefer Start8)

I have very little good to say about Windows 10, I will play with it, but doubt I would ever use it as a main OS. In 15 years, when my 7 and 8 machines become to obsolete. If 10 and Edge have not progressed substantially, I will probably switch to OSX (I think by then OSX will be able to install on PCs easily). LOL, even now many of my friends are trying to pressure me into switching.

But then again, perhaps by then, Microsoft will actually create yet another new OS for people to play with.

You will never see the "Classic Start menu" brought back without some 3rd party app with Vista being the last to see that option. Vista had brought the Aero themes in with it there. As for the tile area at first it was a concern until getting 10 and working things out to make more of a Quick Launch jump list of icons to serve a purpose compared to 8's in you face Large tiles all over while the option for full screen is there not for strictly desktop but for the dual touchscreen Tablet mode when you remember from 8 on is dual not single platform!

Some people prefer the $5 option of going for Start 10 or the worst of the bunch being Classic which does not have the startup with Windows option much needed for 8! 8.1 simply allowed automatic boot to the desktop as an option while still lacking in the Start dept. 10 however is now bringing in other things you may not even be aware such as the Virtual Desktops new for 10! That alone with carrying Hyper-V 8's only saving grace there makes for a good combo!
Classic Shell is much more than a start menu. It fixes a bunch of broken features in Windows 7 and above. IMHO anything created by Stardock is to be avoided like the plague. I have never had the issue with it not starting on any of
the Windows and Server OS I run it on so I am unable to offer any advice on that but here is the FAQ.........

Huh?? Why should a moderator be here?? And just why?? I see nothing wrong going on in this thread and I agree that people with metered internet should be upset over what MS is doing.

    Care to elaborate a bit??
