As I mentioned it was a passing thought I couldn't verify here however since the WMC still hasn't gone on. Something like this however is often tucked away in that part of the Programs & Features however and was worth a look.
That's the good news for you then!
That was found right at the MS store when Cortana brought up the small Edge like window when actually running a Bing search on Waterfox! The built in search engine brought that right up and MS has it in their Windows store listings. But VLC has been around now for a good decade or so and not hard to find.
I just got flags on that site when going to hit the download button.
The overprotective nanny web filtering most likely. A bit overkill at times when trying to look at something and end shutting the av down! But I never get bugs! :)

Too bad the only other player with visualizations isn't from MS besides WMP! The fruit company I thinkest?! The AIMP is still much better looking then VLC by a long shot but won't play videos!
dvd fab player and (unless you just missed a free copy of the DVD Fab pass key v8.0) plays every kind of DVD you can throw at it. The best, better than cyberlink ultra stuff (paid for that crap too and it does not work with win 10 even with their patch).
Dump Zoom Player 30 day trial for that one! There's a ready available free Player 2 version found at downloads.cnet as well as the trial versions seen at DVDFab Products for Windows - the best DVD copy, DVD ripper, Blu-ray copy, Blu-ray ripper Software for DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D
That will work better for the laptop over MPlayer Classic but no Blu Ray drive there on any of the desktops here. And as usual the Alt+Enter combination maxes out for full screen viewing or back to minimized window.
