3D is something i do as a hobby its expensive af we are talking like $1000+ subscriptions for some offerings. The market is defined by sub based models being the dominate revenue factor and that is USD so i would be paying 1.5 times more than the price roughly.

The market is over saturated so what i mean here is that resource is at an all time high you can get 3D models for free or very low prices which is a cancel effect. The tools out there are so expensive but its hard to sell derived works to recoup that. Some people are able to win but its a very small percent.

Game studios or entertainment used to be the dream for many in this space, but it does not bring much money no where what you would think.

I am well sick of the sub models i want to own my software that brings me updates for the life of the software.

Everyone now wants to chime in on the sub bandwagon because they see its big revenue yes its been a thing for a good number of years but its taken until now to be the more dominate factor. When leaked info is out about Windows potentially going sub based then just another reason why i am sick of windows.

How do you think leaked information makes headlines? its because someone privy to that information distributes that info either freely or for personal gain or monetary gain.

Leaked information is speculation because it cannot be verified but its still basis and i think that no not in all cases it holds any merit.

The logic adds up though when we do the math. Windows is becoming team Apple more and more everyday its just not as obvious to the average consumer but they are employing the same sort of crumby tactics as time goes on.

it used to be for years that Windows was the enthusiast choice where it was open and a lot more scalable in terms of cost effectiveness towards the end user. Apple in contrast was always highly motivated by being proprietary and locked in, in ways where it meant money to the end user.

Microsoft is going to the other side of the coin more and more in recent years. They are a spear head currently in innovation i think tbh they are the spearhead that is going to normalize most of the stuff we are not going to like in the future because they have the biggest market share so they have the power to sway the whole landscape into domination.

Microsoft is like the old uncool grandad though and is late to the party these sorts of things have been around for years and they are slow in that regard. I think really though behind the scenes they know full well its just that they implement these things slowly so that people don't notice as much.

Like the frog in hot water will not know its in danger until its to late.

I have no intention of paying MS any money. I only have one old laptop supposedly non-compliant for Windows 11. I'll keep it running on Windows 10 until W10 EOL then use one of several hacks to upgrade it to Windows 11. Failing that 'll continue to use for routine work but won't do any sensitive computer like like online banking.

These scary recent articles might make some think MS's world is already compromised..

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/tech...s/ar-BB1ikC4u?

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknew...s/ar-BB1jAhsM?

    - whilst here in the UK I've just read there are even thoughts about delaying bank transfers to help counter fraud.

The N Koreans are using cyber techniques to steal money- they have a secretive group dedicated to that- mayeb some was used to fund munitions for Russia... and those missiles they keep dumping into the sea.

I suppose the plain fact is that attacks will become ever more prevalent and sophisticated. Against that maybe cloud computing may become the only viable option eventually... other than a completely air-gapped Faraday-cage-protected PC or network.

Now, how much are tin hats on Amazon?

I've no plans to replace my laptops until I have to, though.

I have a powerful MSI gaming laptop which has served me very well for the last eight years. It lacks the properties to run windows 11, but W10 has run extremely well under these years (it was equipped with W10 from the beginning).
The laptop has all the connections I want; ethernet, wifi, Bluetooth, Thunderbolt, usb3, 6(!) usb2, SD-card, mic input, earphones output, line in, line out and hdmi. I have lately not seen any laptop with all these features. And the built in speakers with a sub woofer has a very good sound to.

I've always updated to the latest W10 versions when the are realest, only once under these 8 years I had to do a W10 repair, never needed a reinstall (I have Macrium Reflect).

But I am also a security freak! I made a Desktop icon to update my laptop which a do at least twice a day.

So, not being able to run W11, I installed a linux distro namely Xubuntu a couple of month ago. I do the same with this OS. Make a desktop icon to update the OS. And boy have fast this is!. Not only the OS get updated but also all my apps; webbrowser, email, screen-recorded and so on. I am very happy with Xubuntu and I can even run my flight-simulator with it. The only problem with Linux so far is no support for my screen capture hardware.

Sorry for my rant but computers are my hobby, being a senior citizen at 73 years, with two strokes behind me.
But taking care of my 8 (!) computers make me happy with my days. I also made a webcam surveillance system with a couple of Raspberry Pi:s which made me learning Linux.

AS you maybe understand I am really unwilling to get a new PC because this laptop just works so well!
Sorry for my English but it's not my native language!

Windows is set to potentially go full sub in its entirety
That speculation has been around for over a decade.
Sometimes it has been idiotic speculation, sometimes it has been malicious money-driven speculation [click-bait], sometimes it has been because somebody in a canary channel found the word subscription in an ini file [as in the Laptop mag speculation above].

I used to manage our software subscriptions at work. Subscriptions for commercial [banking] software have been the norm for decades.
We'd pay for the software licence then an annual fee.
The fees & the licence payments were commonly about the same. Sometimes the licence payment was much smaller than the annual fee.
These subscriptions paid for the technical support that was vital for getting back in business if there was a glitch.
If I needed direct MS technical support for Windows then I would gladly pay an annual fee. Training good support staff is an expensive undertaking.
But I do not need direct MS technical support for Windows.
So I do not want to pay a subscription for Windows.

    All the best,

But its already in effect 365 is just that and this whole threads context. Microsoft implements stuff slow we know this. Much of the stuff happening now was already possible since Vista but much of it was opt in functionality. No we don't sub to this if we don't require it.

365 for the average consumer is an option as the articles are saying and they are saying that its now more accessible to normal consumers but its also mainly targeting business atm.

The frog in water is a good example of how they bring features. AI is expensive at some point they could potentially be charging for it so a subscription to copilot could be very possible in the future.

Segmented OS? sure but realistically no matter how you paint it bottom line then that would be paying a periodical sub for Windows at that point.

The speculation on subscription is based from people finding Dev code that suggests as such but its based on code for windows 11 IOT which is Azure cloud, 365 is also apart of that.

"When Windows 10 reaches the end of support, Microsoft will no longer provide bug fixes for issues, security fixes for vulnerabilities, time zone updates, or technical support for problems that might occur. Our session reviewed the options available including Windows 11, Windows 365, or a Windows 10 ESU. "
its in the headline where they are saying when 10 EOL happens then these are your options. AI is dictating the landscape atm and at some point its going to be cost intrusive to the general consumer because its already something that is expensive to produce, its advancing at a rapid pace to the point that it is the defining area that is shaping how we use computers.
