I have run the Microsoft script on two machines. It does not change the size of the partition, nor do you need to manually, but the script performs the changes to WinRE as the KB5034441 Security Update for Windows 10 (21H2 and 22H2) - Jan. 9 would. The script does NOT resolve the error message when windows update tries to install the KB5034441 Security Update for Windows 10 (21H2 and 22H2) - Jan. 9 again. You can hide the KB5034441 Security Update for Windows 10 (21H2 and 22H2) - Jan. 9 so you don't need to be bothered with the error message.

you would think with all the people affected they would provide an easy fix, but since they published the script instead i'm guessing they are not that motivated. Who can say what they will or will not do.

Oddly there's no 'thank' button appearing at all now...
Well it's always the thought that counts.. ;o) ( I don't think News Sections like this permit 'thanks' unfortunately )

And you and @Pentagon have gone above and beyond to help others here with this KB5034441 mess, so my hat tips back at both of you. ;o)

Windows masochist that I am... I'm going to also check my Advanced Recovery options now, as well as Macrium Boot Options.

Baring defenestration, I'll be reporting back. ;o)

Update: I'm still able to get into Advanced Recovery via [ Shift ]+Restart and saw all the options. I was also able to get to Command Prompt. I added Macrium to my Boot Menu and it's working, although I think it's using the WinRE it built after the update and stored in:

    C:\boot\macrium\WinREFiles\media\sources\boot.wim

I installed the script and got it installed successfully on 1 machine (Windows 10 22H2). I'm going to try it on my other machines now. I had to Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted and point it to the path of the Safe OS Dynamic Update package.

It should be easy to create, repair etc. the recovery partition, microsoft makes it complicated, it's the same with windows 11.

How do I expand my recovery partition when it's like this?

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>diskpart

    Microsoft DiskPart version 10.0.19041.3636

    Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation.
    On computer: WINDOWS10

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---
    Disk 0 Online 40 GB 0 B *

    DISKPART> sel disk 0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> list part

    Partition ### Type Size Offset
    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
    Partition 1 Recovery 529 MB 1024 KB
    Partition 2 System 99 MB 530 MB
    Partition 3 Reserved 16 MB 629 MB
    Partition 4 Primary 39 GB 645 MB

    DISKPART>
Probably with minitool partition wizard to drag and drop the recovery partition after the c:.
I think it will be necessary to reduce the c: partition before being able to drag and drop the partitions. I'm not 100% sure!

    Don't use the microsoft instructions

Hi i like many many others got the dreaded install fail and was worried that i needed it but i am only a home user so not a big problem for me but i like to have all updates and pondered if to use Microsoft's solution to fix the problem but they make it so long winded and difficult for the average person.
i have just cloned my hard drive using mini-tool partition wizard a few days back (it was an upgrade to all my drives to ssd)
i did a little reading and fathomed out if your hard drive has 3 or 4 partitions mine does have 4 see image and there is a partition before my recovery partition.
the 1.5 gig one was originally just over 500 meg and after trying to update more than 20 times i thought what have i got to lose as i have my old operating system on my other old replaced now spare drive
i opened mini tool right clicked on extend drive and it gave me the option where to take the spare/extra space from i obviously chose C with the most space then clicked on apply.
i got a warning that the drive C was in use and click start so the computer will restart and mini tool will do it's work.
i did and i was a little stressed for a few minutes then the progress bar moved up slowly to 100% and the computer rebooted
i went straight to updates and it showed none available so i went to history and hey ho it was installed
so use mini tool and to the other member asking does the recovery drive have to be after the main partition the answer is no not if you are using mini tool it works just fine what order the partitions are in
hope this helps others having the same issues

I have just posted how to use minitool waiting for the mods to verify my post with images
no need to move the partitions about minitool works great it gives you the option to take space from a larger partition no matter what order they show up in.my c drive was the second partition.ufi was the third recovery was the 4th and small one the 1st about 50megKB5034441 Security Update for Windows 10 (21H2 and 22H2) - Jan. 9-drives.jpg

How does one go about doing this? Inquiring minds want to know. MS keeps trying to install that update on my system and of course if keeps failing. I just want MS to forgetaboutit..

PS1: Found it: Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

PS2: So I hid the '4441 update. Lets see if it stays hidden.

PS3: So far so good. Did RETRY on updates. '4441 now gone. All updates complete. '4441 failures removed from Update History.

PS4: I don't use BitLocker at all so I feel confident I can just ignore this whole MicroSoft fiasco. Somebody should be fired for allowing this update to go out.
