Laptop now stuck in preparing to configure Windows. Will have to put back an image I took! Will use your commands when its done that. Desk PC extended partition to 1Gb and that's updated no problem, only few Gb more than the laptop that is having all the problems. Left with another old laptop that will need C reduced as no spare space. Worst update I have ever had and I'm 80 and used PC's since the 80's and admittedly what looked and was easy few years ago are much less now. How MS thinks most users are going to deal with this mess I have no idea I have already seen a local Facebook with some one asking for help!.

    What a marmalade...

(I casually defer updates by a week or so - so have not encountered this [yet?]. As far as I know my RE is 980MB and it's always been that way, we shall see!)

I don't see an EFI partition in your screen shot.
Looks like the laptop has an MBR disk (not GPT).

That could also be the reason it's not working. I need to check on that...

Open a command prompt as Admin and run these commands... then post a screen shot of the result.

    diskpart

    then... list disk

    Like this...
(all my disks are GPT as shown by the asterisk in the GPT column)

Dis you already "add" to the Recovery partition, to get to 909MB? If you did, then...
I would just :"add" another 100MB to your Recovery Partition, then try the update again.

If you haven't already "added" to the Recovery partition, then do so now. Add 400MB.
    Then try the update again.

OK will try adding, will need to get minitool installed as the size was as installed by Windows originally.

    @dalchina

This was a Security update for the Recovery partition, yesterday. It failed for most everyone.
Reason for failure... current Recovery partition was too small to allow for the update.
MS Recommended adding 250MB to the Recovery partition to fix the problem.

    KB5034441 Security Update for Windows 10 (21H2 and 22H2) - Jan. 9

For most, this worked. For some, they had to add a bit more... like 300 or 400MB

    Microsoft's response...

    Feel free to jump in.
I don't have a Recovery partition, so it's a bit over my head, so to speak.

    Minitool Partition Wizard free...

And you are correct. If your Recovery partition on that computer was already 909MB, then just add 400MB and re-try the update.
