the solution, for now, is to use the microsoft show or hide update tool, to hide the old, obsolete update that windows update is repeatedly trying to install.

Now... is it possible that it'll find 2023-10 tomorrow? sure.. they already pushed updates that spawned errors because it was trying to install an obsolete or badly dated update.

But, for the time being, the plan worked

Thank very much. I did as you said in your post and no more error, plus the update worked too. So for now all looks good again.

Same here, clicked on the retry button and after checking system shows up to date and the unsuccessful update does not show up anymore.

that is good to hear.

i tried to unhide the hidden update in the microsoft show or hide update tool but, when i checked for hidden updates, the old, obsolete update that i had hidden was not showing as existing anymore.

verifying what others have posted in regards to the 2023-10 update no longer appearing (or in my case, not appearing again)

Microsoft has switched to using ChatGPT for quality control on Windows Update releases, I think. Not working very well.
