I'm trying to figure out if I can get my retail pro upgraded to 10 pro. A previous owner of this computer upgrade the sticker with 7 home to 10 home so I know that I can put on home but I prefer pro. I've been using pro versions since XP. A previous post indicated putting on 10 based upon the home oem key and then doing an upgrade to pro. Is that still possible? Also I'm trying to test atlasos on a virtualbox VM but it won't proceed without activation. Is there a work around providing activation if only for a couple of days?

@alphanumeric I previously got technet keys for 8.1, 2008r2, 2012, 2012r2, and 2016 but I don't have them anymore. Can I log into any site and look them up?

If you upgrade from home to pro without a valid pro key, it will be unactivated.

You can no longer use a Windows 7 key to activate Windows 10 - sorry you had nearly 9 years to do so.

Only options are to stick with home or buy a valid 10 Pro licence.

If the pc was previously upgraded to 10 then afaik there’s no problem with upgrading again. I can’t see anything preventing upgrading from Home to Pro either as long as you have a genuine Pro key.

I was able to get a Win8.1 Notebook Upgraded to Win10 about 3 weeks ago, no issue with Activation. I did it from within Win8.1, not booted to the USB Thumb drive, not going to try with a clean install unless something happens.

Now that you have a Digital License for that Windows 10 upgrade, you should be able to do a clean install of Win 10.

I have a valid pro key for 7 not 10. How much does a home to pro upgrade cost?

MS have closed the win 7 to win 10 upgrade the only way it can be done is if a user previously upgraded from 7 to 10 - ie before the loophole was closed. I believe the Win 10 Home to Pro is about £99/$119. However you’d need to purchase Windows 10 Home then pay the upgrade fee.

There are many sites selling cheap 10 pro keys. The majority do work but some do not - basically Caveat Emptor.

I cannot recommend any site - just because a key from a site worked for one person is no guarantee it will work for next.

I have bought several keys and one site's keys just would not work (even after being replaced) but to be fair, they did refund my money. I cannot guarantee all site would do the same.

However, unless you buy an official key from MS, do not spend more than you can afford lo lose.

I'm not going to risk those sites - pirated keys that might or might not work but are illegal. I checked newegg. All they had was enterprise for $295.
