True, in spite of legit reasons for not using an MS account, it makes things sucky in situations like this. Either way, i'll report back here if I figure out an alternative solution; thanks!
I have never found a single legit reason other than paranoia (or special uses e.g. like laboratories where internet is not required)

I have one, but would easily drop it in a heart beat with no ill regrets. Basically I signed up for one in my Microsoft MVP days just to make life easier. My "Linked to my Microsoft Account" changes routinely with me switching from one version of Windows 10 to another on the fly. And has no bearing on me activating Windows 10 on my current hardware.

Ok, I recently did an upgrade from Win7 to Win10, thinking it was still free, but finding out it is no longer even though Windows gives you no indication of this during the install.

I don't want to post too many links in this post as I am a new user and this post might get flagged as spam, but are those sites legit that sell the OEM key's for like ~$20 USD? I found one selling them at gvgmall [dot] com, which was linked to from easeus [dot] com

100% Work | Activate Windows 10/11 Using CMD and Other Ways - EaseUS

Linked from there... I also tried the below method listed there:

    slmgr /ipk
    slmgr /skms kms.xspace.in
    Slmgr /ato
It said it successfully installed the key, but Windows isn't activated, and the last step seemed to generate an error which I could only see by going to some log file. As I understand it now, the `kms.xspace.in` is an activation server, but I guess it didn't work?

I also found the below, but unsure if legit?

Windows 10 Activator Txt: The Ultimate Guide to Activate Windows 10 without a Product Key | by Techwriter | Medium

Seen a bit on "MSGuides.com" during my research, though not sure how legitimate they are?

    Thanks!

kms.xspace.in is not an MS web address so it cannot be a legitimate MS activation server.
Neither is that Activator txt website.
EaseUS sent you there or an advert on the EaseUS webpage sent you there?

    You've been misled.
Once anybody starts talking about kms outside of the company that is signed up for that licensing-deployment method, you need to smell a rat.

You could usefully search for info on the sites in question.
    kms.xspace.in at DuckDuckGo
    MSGuides.com at DuckDuckGo

EaseUS gave the directions to use the "kms.xspace.in" activation server, but also had an ad for "gvgmall" that was selling OEM licenses.

I mean, I knew these activation servers weren't MS, but I guess I was wondering how credible they were, not that they were tied to MS or not.

    Thanks for your reply.

    OK. I've now found
How to Get Windows 10 for Free [Full Guide in 2024] - EaseUS
that, like your earlier link, refers to upgrading from a licensed Windows 7/8.1.
So there's no breach of licensing involved at all.

I'm confused by the stated procedure.
It seems to say that the upgrade process completes with an activated Windows 10 but it then goes on to describe activating it [with that .in address].
Perhaps I'm too tired but I cannot resolve those two parts of their procedure and I don't understand what that .in address achieves.

    All the best,
    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com

No worries. I have a licensed Win7 key, but per this thread, it seems the option to upgrade for free was taken away, so just searching for other options; which it seems this link was supposed to solve by I guess using an unofficial activation server?

I did read however that you can run AutoKMS yourself - I found this on another forum, are you familar with it? (I think you have to be registered to view this particular thread).

You cannot use kms unless you are subscribed to it. It's a corporate licensing scheme.
