I won't ever bother this time, I can't waste time everytime Windows Update decides to break itself, which is quite often.

edit: I was wrong, it's indeed a different error. It downloads and then attempts to install the updates, but it fails giving me this error. I'm afraid it's a permission access issue, though I have no idea how it started, as I know better than mess with permissions on system folders. Guess it's yet another example of Windows bugging itself for no reason.

That is when having a good system image backup becomes handy. 😉
If you have a backup taken before the mess, just restore it. 🤐🤷*♂️

I have no clue either, but it's not as if Windows needs reasons to bug itself haha.

They are never consistent.
I have many different PCs and the behavior and bugs are often different even with the same level of updates. ����

I'm really baffled and wonder why Windows Update is so unreliable and why Windows updates cause so many issues, does Microsoft even have a Windows QA staff anymore? They're clearly not testing the stuff they write. IMHO it's by far the worst thing developed by Microsoft, it's broken way too often.

For me WU wouldn't even exist, ideally it should just show links to download the updates as good ol' .exe or .msi from Microsoft Update Catalog website. Which is what I had to do in order to install Windows Security updates, because WU was giving me error 0x80070005 when attempting to install them. IIRC, Windows XP updates worked like that and never gave me headache like Windows 10 and 11 do.

edit: I stand corrected, Microsoft Store is the worst thing ever made by Microsoft, though Windows Update is not far behind.

And I read somewhere that the Back up app that gets installed is a thinly disguised ruze to get/force people to upgrade to W11, because supposedly it backs up all your files, apps & settings to OneDrive, and then if/when you try to restore your machine from it, it automatically installs 11 instead, with all your previous apps, settings, etc. before you even know what happened...

Does anyone know if this is true or false ?

I'd sure never use anything the backs up my stuff on the cloud. I never use OneDrive for anything.
Then you have to pay for the space used as soon as you go above the small amount of free space.
Without counting the bandwidth used with your service provider that also charges when you go over the limit of data allowed for the month.

I agree wholeheartedly with your approach -- as I have disabled OneDrive, since I don't use "cloud" stuff at all.

I can see using it to store small stuff that you want to have access to real-time from several devices, but to store a 30GB backup? I don't see that as a practical solution for restoring a crashed PC.

I have a USB stick I can use to boot into Macrium Reflect and locally stored images that I can use to restore my PC in less than 5 minutes. Just downloading a 30GB saved image from a cloud service would take a lot longer than that.
