I upgraded from 8.1 pro and it is better than 8.1 no doubt about it but I still installed classic shell as I detest those tile apps on a desktop, I know you can unpin them but they shouldn't be there in the first place, it's a fast O/S alright and it will get better over time but I will still use Linux as my main O/S as it's just so much better.

    Windows 10 Hits/Misses
    Hits:
    1. The updated start menu.. It just meets my needs and is flexible for what I do.
    2. Edge, Yes,, it's still under development but I like it so far and the direction it's heading. In time it should be great, IMO,.
    3. The Quick Access.. For me it makes it easy to access the files/folders I use the most.
    4. Cortana. I use it from time to time and so far I like it.. is it perfect.. no.. but it's fun to use.
5 Upgrading Media Player to handle FLAC.
    ...
    Jeff
Jeff: tks and I have also been happy so far with what I have done and seen. I have so much to learn, try and do with windows 10.
I have not messed with doing a menu yet, but I like what the Edge browser has shown me, and will keep checking it out as I am using it. So far the new Win10 has made it easy enough for me to find and use programs/folders/files... I have not tried Cortana yet, but maybe soon. I am using the Media Player now, but listening for suggestions, What is FLAC? I do take a lot of big sized .jpg photos.
I have not had much time for the past two-three years to get much into the bowels of Win-systems, and I believe that win 10 will be allowing me to do some of that again - and have some fun while doing it. I am finally retiring on Halloween, and will be doing more win10. What new photo app are you talking about?
thanks, and be safe.. Cliff M.

I agree providing you are not using a Windows 10 Insider Build.
And I'm not. I'm still on Windows 7.

    1. FLAC is a music file format.. in 8.1 Media player didn't support it but now it does.. is it a big deal no.. but it's nice.

    2. The new APP for viewing photos is the default now.. it replace Windows Photo Viewer,, but you can still get Photo Viewer with a reg hack.

I don't get FLAC. The files are too big and don't really sound any better to me. I'll stick with my 192 mp3's or 96 wma's. They both sound great. A wma at 128 really sounds good. Photo Viewer, or the Photo app, I have no use for. They both stink. I use Irfanview instead.

3 upgrades and 1 clean install , all good, no complaints. Once I locked them down, there good to go, funny thing, now this is the first time since windows 95 I actually have a MS activated version of windows at home or at work. Everything(software wise) migrated fine and works. Actually even faster than Win 7 Pro.

FLAC to MP3 and WMA is UHD or HD picture to SD picture. If you cannot tell the difference fair enough but if you have a good sound card, amplifier and speakers FLAC files being lossless compressed WAVE files sound superb. As good as the CD source they are ripped from. Lossy Mp3 and WMA files sound good on better equipment but some of the detail is lost hence the smaller file size. If you want quality go with FLAC, there is no reason not to with HD storage prices being low.
