Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has a long history of leading the industry with innovative experiences. We’ve unveiled three generations of compute platforms that bring mobile-first, premium experiences to our customers, and we are the first to deliver on multiday battery life, on-device artificial intelligence (AI) processing, and 5G connectivity in a personal computer (PC) — and we couldn’t have done it without the incredible collaboration of the PC ecosystem.

At Computex 2023, we recently shared our vision for the next generation of PCs and why Snapdragon is paving the way.

As we transition to a post-pandemic age, it is evident that technology is playing an increasingly vital role in our daily lives.

Worldwide, we spend more than 6.5 hours a day online, with nearly half that time on our laptops and the remainder on our mobile phones (1).

Consequently, it’s natural to want both experiences to be seamless and like each other — and this has been our vision all along. Building on our leadership in performance per watt, on-device AI, camera and audio technology, and lightning-fast connectivity, Snapdragon Compute Platforms are truly driving the convergence between mobile and PC.

Moreover, the escalating demand for smart experiences has emerged as a significant catalyst for the growth of Snapdragon. The groundbreaking applications leveraging both cloud and on-device AI will create a need for an emerging class of powerful and efficient devices that support advanced experiences in this new era of intelligent computing.

Undoubtedly, the AI technology is experiencing a remarkable boom, and the profound impact it has had on our daily lives is nothing short of astonishing.

Tools such as Windows Studio Effects has made video conferencing more immersive. With multiple AI features seamlessly working in the background, video and audio quality are significantly enhanced through features like background blur, camera focus and noise reduction.

Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) are also leveraging Snapdragon to enhance their solutions, and Skylum is a prime example. They have specifically optimized the award-winning AI photo editor Luminar Neo for Snapdragon Compute Platforms, resulting in an impressive fourteen-fold increase in processing speed. This exceptional achievement showcases the tremendous power of on-device AI, and users can leverage it and begin creating right now, with Luminar Neo, available in the Microsoft Store.

More recently, ChatGPT ignited an explosion of AI innovation; with 100 million monthly active users just two months after launch — the fastest growing consumer application (app) in history.

Generative AI has emerged as the new frontier encompassing diverse apps ranging from image generation to document creation, as well as text-to-speech and speech-to-text capabilities. You can watch the generative AI demos on Snapdragon Compute platforms presented at Build.

With this proliferation of AI tools, the need for AI to be accessible on-demand and on-device is clear:

This is where Snapdragon stands at the forefront, leading the way in delivering on-device intelligence.

Exemplified through user experience benchmarks including Procyon from UL Solutions, our Qualcomm Hexagon processor demonstrates extraordinary performance, surpassing competitor x86 CPU by five times and GPU by 2.5, their primary means of running AI.

As AI continues to scale and reshape every part of our lives, the computing infrastructure required to support these massive generative AI models will follow. As this technology develops, the future of AI will be hybrid, with processing distributed between the cloud and edge devices, allowing generative AI to reach its full potential, making it more powerful, efficient and personal.

To ensure we’re delivering exceptional, personalized experiences to end users, we are enabling features — from both hardware and software — for our ecosystem partners to leverage.

Aligned with partners like Microsoft, we’re enabling a new breed of intelligent PCs that can revolutionize the industry and enhance the end user experience. Next generation Snapdragon platforms with our new Qualcomm Oryon CPU, unveiled at Snapdragon Summit 2022, will deliver this best-in-class performance.

The opportunity ahead of us is enormous, particularly with the rapid expansion of generative AI: As demand for intelligent processing grows, the doors to exciting possibilities and new avenues for innovation swing wide open.

We’re excited to share this vision ahead of developments coming in 2023, and we look forward to bringing even more transformative experiences to our customers, driven by our technology leadership across performance, AI, connectivity and more.
