    Just a FYI

Edge is pretty much the only way you can watch todays Apple launch event on Windows.

Apple Events - Special Event September 2015 - Apple
Requirements: Live streaming uses Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology. HLS requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Safari on iOS 7.0 or later, a Mac with Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X v10.8.5 or later, or a PC with Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. Streaming via Apple TV requires a second- or third-generation Apple TV with software 6.2 or later

Well it doesn't work for me. Here is my settings bar showing Google search set as default but you can see it is still using Bing.
You've set the "search in the address bar" to google. You may want to change your start page as well. It is on the first page of settings.

Would this apply to the "live" event, because as I type this I'm watching it on IE11 under Windows 10 Pro...

Well, I am not sure what you mean by this, this is the standard notice they give with all of their live events, but you can still join in on these live events.

There is a PC work-around that works for most of the major browsers, because I have done it. This has been discussed in depth prior, in many a forum. Many suspect, it is Apple's way of trying to promote their products, by limiting other browsers.

    Who knows.

I've been using Edge since I installed Win10 last month on my laptop. I haven't used it much since the laptop is more a back up computer on the go but I've been happy on how quick it is. I'm using Chrome on my older Win7 desktop computer and speedways I would say they are about the same.

That is what I plan on doing but until they make EDGE user-friendly, I will stick with IE11 or Firefox. Since I am running on a test ex win 8.1 PC, I cannot really test all of the functions of EDGE But having read the problems that are being reported on Feedback, I think it will be a while before EDGE is user ready.
That's a SMART MOVE caveman88. I installed Windows10 in mid August. Edge started out super fast, but it's now slowing to a crawl and not even opening some websites... it times out. Using CCleaner to clear Edge's cache no longer helps. I think Microsoft ignored the feedback from its Edge beta testing group and rushed to release the browser too soon. IE11 and Firefox are now much faster and more reliable than Edge on my desktop PC.

If they gave me an option to import favourites from Firefox I might give it a try, then again no plugins would be a killer for me.

I Imported my favourites from IE11 have you tried to with Edge and Firefox.
What plugins are you after as Edge does everything I want it too.
Why not give it ago and still leave Firefox as a backup.
