Passkeys for Google Accounts are now available

Awh... Google cares about you.... How nice.

Total surveillance; fingerprints, face biometrics etc... machines more more telling you what you can do...
All "secured" with the vague promises on the 500 pages of privacy policy with 100 links and the right to "change the terms at any given time without notification".

This one fact is: if you have a "privacy policy" and state such over dozens of pages, you indirectly already declared that you reserve the right to siphoning information. The "privacy policy" is just the protective armor. Just like more and more sites and services have exemptions you have to agree to or you can't use anything.

Can someone please clarify this for me. This is confusing.

I’m testing the new Passkey feature on my Google account and so far so good.

However, on the sign in with Passkey prompt, if I select the Try Another Way option, I can still sign in using my password.

So would that actually defeat the purpose of using Passkeys?

However, I do not have 2FA setup on my Google account. Only the Passkey option.

But I still do not get the point or the fact is that why I am able to login using my password by selecting the Try Another Way option even when I have setup a Passkey.

Am I doing something wrong here or is Google testing this feature and therefore letting users to fallback to using their passwords? Is this the case?

Again it is going to be that way because not everyone can or have setup a Passkey on their device. Everyone will always get the other choice and most likely it will be like that forever.

From the article above.....

"Of course, like any new beginning the change to passkeys will take time, that’s why passwords and 2SV will still work for Google Accounts."

They are trying to introduce it, that's why the old methods still work......for now.

Moving into the future this will be something that will be used more and more I imagine because people are drones and/or lazy and can't bare to use a password manager, REAL 2FA or a Yubi Key.

I for one will never use it and use alternatives instead. If YouTube goes this way (and they will) I'll be getting rid of my account. And with phones I'll use NOTHING but third-party firmware like GrapheneOS and the likes.

When quantum computers roll out and your passwords of today and null and void, I hope FOSS type Yubi password keys hit the market...

Stay away form biometrics in the U.S. It's not protected by the 5th Amendment...

Okay, I understand now as to why the user can still fallback or use a password even though Passkey is enabled. Because Google doesn’t want people to get locked out from their account because Passkeys could be a pain to setup especially for the non technical savvy person.

In that case, I just need to at least setup 2FA to prevent an attacker that would select the Try Another Way option and try to brute force my password.
