Sometimes inexplicable mistakes have simple solutions. I don't even think this is an error since it doesn't actually stop the update, someone must messed up some little part of the process.

Tried it too but it didn't work, saw only the 'walking dots' from left to right right under checking for updates. What the heck? When it reached 90% the progress percentages came back!

Strangely on two as soon as Malicious Software the update went to Your up to date without saying reboot. One on rebooting running update brought up the Windows update and it installed OK. The second ran the update but after 5minutes is still Preparing to configure without progressing. I dont really know what to do with it locked in this stage.

As I had a imige I rebooted the laptop, went into update and 2023-03 was now listed as Installin 0% and now looks to be installing correctly.
Starting the reboot a separate, at bottom of screen message popped up “Updating system files” than went back to usual message updating to 30% and reboot.
After reboot sfc /scannow had errors and had to ran restore health. This worked and sfc /scannow reported file it repaired errors and a fallow up run had no errors. One of my worst Windows updates in years.

This one was bad for me, too. Of the five PCs, including one laptop, that I tried to install this one, four of them failed -- no error messages, just went through the motions but when I reboot when done and ran Winver, the old version was still there.

I was able to use the .msu file to do all four PCs without issue.

I was lucky then as after it all going wrong I ended with the updated version. I have my wifes laptop to do so hope that goes OPK!

You can always download the .msu file from the start of this thread and run that, if the standard update does not go well.

Mine went a little weird, after download, nothing happened, black screen. Waited for 10 minutes, closed the window, checked for updates again. This time the download was fast, finished the install and asked for [Restart}. sfc & ScanHealth no issues. Image made and seems to be OK.

One thing I noticed, the image was recorded to a usb 3.0 portable drive. The writing to the drive was about .400Gbps faster than in the past.

This happened to me too in one of my computers... Exactly the same thing but, all end up good!
