i.e. all the licences offered for sale

I agree. They have not suggested that they will remove the MCT or curtail ISO downloads.

I can still upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 after this date, correct?

After all, I'm not purchasing anything...

    Nobody knows for sure.
Nobody has reported that such an upgrade can no longer be done in practice even though we are more than six years past that free upgrade offer expiring.
MS have not made any announcement that such an upgrade will no longer be allowed.

    All the best,

Well I'll give it a try, anyway. Your tutorial on doing this should help.

I do not want to have to scrap this laptop.

MS later admitted the 1 year upgrade offer was just marketing hype to get people to switch asap.

They have no reason to ever stop it - they want people to use a more modern OS.

Having said that the artificial W11 constraints is bizarre.

    Thanks

Denis, I can now confirm the update from 8.1 to 10 21H1 still works.

Now I have to update 21H1 to Windows 10 22H2. I hope there's no problems doing that using either Windows Update Assistant, or the Windows 10 installation media USB tool

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

I can also confirm that my machine isn't qualified to be upgraded to 11, unless MS changes their minds and decides to allow older machines to be able to be updated to it in the future.

    You never know. Stuff, happens.

There is no reason to expect any problems.
The update should be done by WU. You are free to choose the WUA or the MCT*** methods instead.
*** Normally referred to as the 'In-place upgrade' or 'Repair install' method. Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials

Lots of people have "upgraded" non-compliant computers to Windows 11.
The only constraint so far has been that Version updates, such as 22H2, do not install automatically & that the In-place update [aka Repair install] procedure has to be used instead.
Monthly updates take place as normal.

But Windows 10 is supported until 2025 so why bother about Windows 11 yet?
As far as the user experience is concerned, Windows 11 merely has a different Start menu & a different Taskbar. It also has better security by default.

In this case I very much doubt that it will ever happen. MS state that the requirements are in the name of increased security, and they're not going to back down on that.

There are workarounds to install 11 on almost anything though, I have several unsupported devices running 11.

That's something I'll keep in mind if the other ways I mentioned don't work.

I already have the 22H2 upgrade USB tool set up, and I also have the Download Assistant as well. Having multiple ways of doing this lessens the chances for something to go wrong and not follow through.

You're right. And I'm in no hurry to go to Win 11, either.

There may even be an ESR for Win10 after 2025 so it could be even longer than that.
