So is this build now stuck without any updates until later this year?
    That's what the post implies.

Of course, as you see later, you can remove the 19045 Enablement package, do the newer 19044 updates and then re-enable 19045.

But what is the point of doing that? You're only really applying 21H2 updates and then manually changing the version to 22H2. You're not really applying 22H2 updates because those have not been released yet.

Err, that didn't go well - stuck in a loop of updating and rolling back, see below.

    Now running build 19044.1947.
How? I booted from the Windows release media on a USB and uninstall the last quality update. After rebooting, I then left the Insider RP ring/level. But KB5012170 will still not install but the PC is BIOS only so I'll ignore it.
Unfortunately, there is a problem with KB5012170 and it keeps failing to install on some UEFI machines.
I had the same issue with my Dell XPS 8700, that update also cause some files to be corrupted and could not do any other updates after that one failed.
The good thing is that W.U. does not try to install that failing update if you are already at 22H2.
So, to solve my case on that desktop, I just restored an image of 19045.1947 that I had saved before it tried to download KB5012170 that is causing all the problems. I'll be waiting for a fix from MS.
You may want to run SFC /SCANNOW to see if KB5012170 corrupted files.

Microsoft confess there are problems with Windows KB5012170 update - Real Mi Central

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...8-c42bd211bb15

I tried a clean install of 19044.1947 and after that W.U. did not have any problem Installing KB5012170.
But a clean install is just last resort in my case, I have way too many programs on that machine to start from scratch.
Also, I have the damn Turbo Tax on that box which requires a reactivation every time you reinstall. Silly Intuit programmers. 🤬
I'm not going to pay for it again because of this bug on a MS update. 😝

    @MUser,
Found a workaround on the KB5012170 errors and hangs, as suggested by some users with problems on that update.
Without resorting to a clean install which I did not want to do.
On Dell XPS 8700 I went to Secure Boot settings in BIOS and deleted all the existing keys as suggested.
Then rebooted 19044.1865 that I just restored and installed offline KB5012170 using the .msu downloaded from the MS catalog.
This time it worked fine without hangs or any other error.
Once I was over that problem, I could install all other updates offered by W.U. without any more issues or any corrupted files.

    Edition Windows 10 Pro
    Version 21H2
    Installed on ‎5/‎18/‎2021
    OS build 19044.1947
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0

I'm now back in business on that Desktop. It was a pain in the neck, but finally done.

I can now also uninstall kb5012170 and reinstall it with W.U.
