UPDATE: I started the clean install with 10532 before some of the post telling me to do 10240 first. But, on the first run, W10 reported that my files were corrupt?. Tried again, this time, W10 wanted the key. I skipped that and it finished rather fast. It seems to be working, but needs a lot of polish, graphic drivers etc. It is not activated as expected due to no key furnished. I have now got the info I needed, nothing in the hardware as expected. Tx for the post's trying to help me out. :-)

MS maintains the "key", after verification of mobo and cpu configuration; if sold by MS or with WIN 10 from MS, or with activated win 7 or win 8, it gets a Win 10 pseudo-key; one does show in the local machine registry but that's the generic key for inactivated installs. Caveat: afaik!

Although it is still showing as not activated, I did a verify successfully. On settings/activation it is showing **...3V66T. An insider error code says, it is being blocked by the activation server. This is expected? since the install was not based on any of my legal windows installs.

So you was activated on the rtm build but not on any of the next insider builds because they would not update. Just wondering as I have a drive with no history of anything but insider builds rtm said activated and next two builds said activated and had an expire date of next summer. Insider rtm went from free to not free. Me wonders what next.

I think you still need to "upgrade" your W7 OS in order to get the activation sorted. You should use the media creation tool, create the ISO, mount it from within W7 and run the upgrade to 10240RTM.

Still can't this build to activate despite repeated attempts to do so.

There's some discussion to suggest that new builds will not have a product key & will self activate.

My build 10532 was a upgrade to previously installed build 10240 which was activated.

Update: Is this the reason why & if so, why was it offered on a preview build 10240

Anybody who is running genuine and activated Windows 10 can join the Windows Insider program to upgrade to latest preview build available. You just need to opt in to the Windows Insider Program via Settings app -> Update & Security -> Windows Update -> Advanced options -> Get Insider builds, and sign in with the Microsoft Account registered with the Windows Insider program. However, if you donít have an activated Windows 10, Windows Insider no longer provides any product key to activate newly installed system as it will obviously allow everyone to get free license of Windows 10.

Personally, I don't want to upgrade to build 10532 on my registered version of Windows 10 Pro & would prefer to keep any experimentation by using insider preview builds on a separate build.

That's Enterprise. Enterprise SKUs don't have "hardware-based" activation and instead rely on volume licencing since it's meant for businesses (KMS, MAK, MTK, etc)
If you upgrade Pro from 10240 to 10532, it will remain activated as it merely checks that your hardware's the same.

If you had Enterprise 10240 activated, then you should reactivate via the same method (I'm pretty sure clean Insider installs of Enterprise were deactivated for 10240)

Build 10240 was activated but 10532 still isn't!

Let me try to clear this up a bit... when you go from 10240 Pro to 10532 Pro it will remain activated.. mine did. But when you go from 10240 Enterprise to 10532 Enterprise you need to reactivate via a different method, And from the image you posted in #227 it shows that your using Enterprise and not Pro.
