    Time will tell.
There is a real possibility that 10 will be great.

Indeed there is, but people need to keep their expectations low, since Microsoft plans to work on Win 10 for another half a year at least, so there'll be plenty of room for improvements, new things, bug fixes and so on. I just hope people won't give up on it as soon as their Windows randomly crash once..

The people who are ready to test the preview will show more maturity.

    Hi there

Agreed -- We all know it's probably even pre-beta software - certainly well before a Release Candidate. People who don't understand that should not download and use.

I suspect though as Ms is gearing this towards enterprise W7 users it will work pretty well straight out of the box. I can't wait to try it on the Surface Pro 3 tablet though !!!.

    Cheers

I don't think there's anything wrong with 10 being like 7. Windows 8's Desktop was just the same as 7's, Windows 10's Desktop is picks off where 7 left off and added what was brought to the table with 8.

But then again, this is the verge we're talking about and they're a very skewed bunch. Let alone the fact that this is the technical preview intended primarily for the enterprise and people who complained until they were blue in the face about 8. The enterprise is basically all running 7, so it makes sense for them to first deliver a new OS with a familiar looking UI.

Let's wait until the consumer preview to see what else is in store.

I'm gonna set up vmware, for the first time, and install it there. I assume that I can install it while not belonging to the "wip"...

I have it install without signing up with "wip" and it seems to be working just fine. . .knock on wood. . .

Everything OLD was once NEW and everything new will be old and all of it goes round and round, so do Windows. Given all the outcry about Win8 it's not surprising at all what we see here. Old Start, done new way. Expected in 8.2, showed up in 10. Waiting for some real surprise still.
