I had it set to off, for grins I turned it back to on and Edge did NOT start on startup. So right now it is not starting up on startup. Something worked but I am not sure what.
Well that worked for one reboot, on the next reboot Edge was back, reset it to off and rebooted and Edge did not start up. Will see how long that lasts,
I've been reading on the issue, and all indications are that it can be deleyed safely. But, don't take my word for it. I'll leave that advice (yes or no), to the Gurus.
Best of luck.
I've left it there for now. I'll sleep on it for a while.
Maybe I'll wake up one morning and say, "That ESD folder has to go."
Yes, I have plenty of system images, and I have restored and tried again to update, but the same thing happens with KB5009543. It's the only Windows Update that keeps failing.
I was thinking to restore the system image and forget about this CU.
Reminds me of an old joke.
Patient says: Doctor, it hurts when I do this.
Doctor says: Don't do that.

I thought there was something wrong with my eyes then realized the update had changed my desktop icons from medium size to small size. At least it was an easy fix to get them back the way they were !
