My update took 3 days and completely messed up my machine.

during the update to win 10 21H it became impossible to use either my Sony laptop or my homemade desktop, both with high specs. The built in touch pad did not work, and pages grew and shrank for no obvious reasons. Even now i never know how big the text will be when I change from one site to the other. Always having to press ctrl+ or - in order to view a page.
In addition, all my old and expensive software did not re-appear.
No office, no Dreamweaver suite, no Autocad, no database software. In fact an empty machine. Even my Outlook email service went. Its cost me about £3000 in lost and irrecoverable software, as many of the ones I sued daily are no longer compatible.
Today I tried to fill in my UK tax return. Spent all afternoon and still unable to login to my on line account. The service sends a log in code to my email address but when it arrives it does not work. No answer to that is there?
All in all I wish I could turn off updates for good.
Why make changes just for the sake of it?
They also added in all the apps from my Google phone. Why?
I try to keep my phone and my computer separated. Computers are easy to hack, so I don't trust them. Even got a firewall around mine. but it still gets attacked.

I just finished downloading the 21H2 ISO from UUP dump. My practice is to create a system image on a remote drive prior to any update. This is my safety net. I hope you did the same. I sound to me that you ran a clean install.

In addition, all my old and expensive software did not re-appear.
No office, no Dreamweaver suite, no Autocad, no database software. In fact an empty machine.
I'm still going to run the update just to see the changes.

KB5007289 Update caused my older Alienware laptop to slow down alot

On 11/24/2021 I installed 2 Microsoft update packages to my older and newest Dell laptops.
I have 2 new ones and one older Dell Alienware - which I registered with.

    I installed:
    Windows 10 Feature update 21H2
    Windows 10 Quality update KB4023057

My 2 new laptops took them well.
My older laptop practically can't open anything fast any more. It is very slow.

After looking at the Uninstall list to see what was installed, I found many KB packages under each one.
I had no clue as to which KBxxxxxxx might be the problem.

When I installed 21H2 first, it appeared to be okay, although I was trying to get all the updates done quickly.
I really did not inspect much in between them. That was a mistake.

After the 2nd "Quality update" I was done and my laptop was so slow as to be almost unusable.

To make a long story short, I reviewed all the KBxxxxxxs to determine which one might be a problem.

    I decided to Uninstall KB5007289. Nov 22 2021 release - the latest I think.
That just about fixed my old laptop. It is back to normal speed for a 5 year old laptop.

In that package, are a WCF update, a WPF update and a SQL connection update.
I think it was the Windows Communication Foundation update that caused the problem, but I really am guessing.
I can't see the code or the problem as it executes. the SQL connection update is the 2nd suspect.

    win 10

If it has been less than 10 days go in and revert it back to the previous version if you did not do a clean install .
It is in the recovery tab under Update and Security . If you did a clean install or it has been more than 10 days then you are screwed unless you did a image backup before hand .
My update went fine on my 2011 Lenovo desktop with an old AMD Athlon processor albeit was a slower process than I thought it would be . Update process took over an hour . Doesnt seem to be any slower and has been working ok . It is still running a 15 year old Canon Scanner and a 15 year old HaupaugeTV card flawlessly .
