So if someone is using an offline system or not logged into a Microsoft account they won't get it?
Microsoft is rolling out dark mode for Windows 10 Search
It's a server-side update, so not everyone has it just yet as they are rolling it out.
I don't have it on my main account yet, but on same PC it's on my backup accounts

I got this yesterday without prior notification. It’s weird how Windows can give you updates nowadays without prior consent and prior notice.
Hi there,
does anyone know how Microsoft rolls out such changes and how to check them (build and FEP remain the same!), prevent or initiate them manually?
For urgent matters (like the chkdsk problem back then) I get it, but in this case they should have put it in a WU rollup
instead of tinkering (furthermore unasked, unscheduled and undocumented) with millions of devices.
Regards
Martin
@mfessler, Hello Martin,
I have the same questions as you and haven't been able to find any answers. I thought maybe after yesterday's update my PCs would have the dark mode search results, but that didn't happen.
I suppose it's a totally separate mechanism they use to push the dark mode update, and regular updates don't trigger it.

So far, after 6 days, I'm still waiting for this update for both of my laptops !
Same story with the “New Microsoft Store”... pffff !
Bye
One of my laptops (the oldest one), received the Microsoft Store Upgrade, and... what a mess !!! The older one (Microsoft Store) was more efficient and less buggy than this new version with “round corners”, like I'm in hurry to upgrade my laptop to Windows 11 !
And as for the dark mode, it hasn't showed upon any of the laptops after 11 days !!!
If you are looking for Windows Search Results to show a dark background and your Windows 10 2004-thru-21H2 is set for dark mode, then you may be interested in the following as I finally figured out an issue causing me to not see dark mode search results.
1. In the registry folder
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search\
if you have key "CortanaConsent" and it is set to 0, you must change it to 1
2. In the registry folder
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
if you have key "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions" , it must be set to 0.
If you change any of those values, you must either reboot or End Task "Search" from Task Manager to make the change take effect, then try a search again to see if you have dark background in the search results window.
If you don't have those folders and respective keys, don't do anything.
After I changed those keys, my search results have a dark background and if I change either of the keys, Windows Search results background becomes white/light again.
The reason I had those registry keys was because I followed tutorials to disable Internet/web search results from being shown in Windows Search results - but those mods, it turns out, were preventing Windows Search results from being displayed with a dark background. This testing was done on Windows 10 2004 Home.
Here is one such tutorial where I modified "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions" Turn On or Off Search online and include web results in Windows 10 originally to disable web/Internet search results.
