KB5006738 Windows 10 2004 19041.1320, 20H2 19042.1320, 21H1 19043.1320 Win Update

This KB has been showing up to me (as Optional) for while and I had ignored it:

KB5006738 Windows 10 2004 19041.1320, 20H2 19042.1320, 21H1 19043.1320-image.png

So, now I will be installing it to see if there is any benefits in it.

Other than "pausing" @ 21% for a while, 19043.1320 went smoothly

Mine went well too...

But funny, after the image above that I though it had finished because it was dormant, it jumped back to 21%, hung, jumped to 45%, hung, jumped to 73%, hung and then it jumped to 100% again and ended it, those jumps was not less than 3-6 minutes each.

The final result end-up being satisfactory!

The first 100% was the Servicing Stack update. The "pauses" are not really pauses TIWorker.exe is still chugging away in the background.

Just for info: Normally do not install optional updates but decided to install KB5006738 on my laptop. Update restarts computer and at 30% bsod “System thread exception not handled”. Same on the 2^nd reboot. On the 3^rd reboot, hit F8, F5 to start in safe mode receiving message “We couldn’t complete the update. Undoing changes to your computer" then restarts again with the same bsod. 2^nd reboot same bsod. 3^rd reboot F8>F5. Laptop boots to safe mode but now have a message on the desktop: “Keep USB drive plugged in only remove it after your pc shuts down completely. Otherwise, your Windows To Go workspace might crash and you could lose data.” I have never used WTG and there is no usb drives plugged in. Reboot computer and have to go thru the same procedure to access the C: drive.

Restored C: from my 10-15-21 usb backup drive. Rebooted C: numerous times and it works perfectly ever time until I install KB5006738. It is optional and for now I will not install it again.

Still have not received the 21H2 version over Windows Update.
Currently on 21H2 19044.1288
I will wait for it to be offered instead of installing it myself...

You won't receive it via Windows Update until next month as it hasn't been released yet - should be released in November.
